A few years ago I helped someone get out of homelessness because of addiction. Someone helped me and always believed I could do better so I paid it forward. They are a non violent felon . I helped this person with rent , car , car insurance, clothing, mental health, drug addiction help, so on . After many job interviews they finally found a job. Tyson would not hire them , McDonald's with their adds saying they help felons would not hire them. It is extremely difficult to get a job as a felon even with all the help wanted signs. Yes it is our fault we are felons , people should get at least one second chance at a job. Yes they could have went on disability as I could also , we chose to work. When you say get a job , Hire us non violent felons then some of us want to work .

There's help for an addiction here.
This is out of my wheelhouse, but I don't think any of them are free...
There's help for any possible mental health issues here.
Same issue with the cost. But worse, many of them don't realize that they even have a mental issue! Think about the famous "Crazy Mary," can you imagine any amount of therapy that would have helped her find a stable job?
There's job training help here as well. DSS Work First Program/NC Works/Goodwill Industries.
That's all good, but how does that help someone that can't pass a drug test or that has a felony record?
THING IS? THEY SAID THEY DONT WANT NO HELP.
I think that might be imaginary... I'm sure that some of them have chosen the lifestyle, but you can't assume that the few speak for all of them.
I don't know that most of us can even imagine the downward spiral, much less realize impossible it can be to reverse it.

Medicaid is a totally different animal than Medicare. I pay 180 dollars a month for it. I also pay 20% of the total bill. MEDICAID IS FREE INSURANCE AND ANY AGE CAN RECIEVE IT. But you knew this. SS isn't free, I worked 50 years of my life and paid it in. And yes Medicare is took out of the check also. YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO WORK TO GET MEDICAID, see the difference. jesus

"Government health providers are liberals." could that be 'cos "conservatives" have traditionally treated mental health care as a waste of money. Anywhere repub's gained control it was always one of the first casualties of their "fiscal responsibility," along with arts and education. It wasn't until they needed a better excuse for not having gun control, than all these armed patriotic citizens fighting off an oppressive government, that they came up with the mental health thing.

Our sources said most all the goverment mental health providers r liberals and need mental help theyselfs, plus it gets you in "the system" right quick if you go to one of them which takes medicaid.

Anyone can get Medicaid if they are below the poverty level due to changes to Medicaid in the last few months to help with mental health issues AND if you want to quit doing drugs you can. It isn't easy, you will always be an addict but you're a recovering addict. Yes Tyson will hire you and pay a decent salary but they expect you to work. The elderly has my sympathy because they worked, paid for their homes, raised their families and don't get enough SS to pay for medications, food, home and car insurance, cable, and a few essentials each month.

and whom is going to pay for these kind of treatments? you, me all of us???
It can take months, even years to treat these mental health issues and addiction therapy also takes years and constant monitoring.
So how are these homeless supposed to begin said treatments to become contributing members of society? Not all of them have Medicaid or SSDI/Medicare!!!

There's plenty of help with an addiction. Been at a 4 way intersection as of late? *cough Millers Creek.it can be done.CAN. There are resources instilled here. For those that WANT HELP. big pisser is? You've GOT TO WANT TO CHANGE.

Stop doing drugs , it's not that easy. Get a job no one will hire you not even Tyson. Is your house , car paid for would you loose it if you got fired or your place of work closed. If you're retired or getting assistance would you be homeless if your rent , payments go up more than your income. If you sit and think most are 3 months from being homeless.

Most homeless have mental health or dug issues. Treat the mental health issues and stop doing drugs. Several job openings in the county . 2 or more go in together and rent a home.if you truly want to be a successful member of society you have to help yourself.

I read a story from a man that had been homeless that just broke my heart. He was answering a question of why homeless people wouldn't eat food that was given to them, and instead wanted money.
A lot of people were saying that they just wanted to buy drugs, until he chimed in.
He told a story about sitting on a bench, and a man that he had seen a few times came and sat near him. The man had just eaten his lunch, and said that he had packed an extra sandwich for him. Really nice, right?
So the man hands him the sandwich and walks off.
The homeless guy notices the man sort of hiding and watching him, which was suspicious. So he opened the sandwich... to find what looked like a cat t*rd and broken glass hidden inside! When he looked up, he saw the man running away.
And that's why they need money instead of food... people are truly evil and they just can't trust that it won't be filled with glass, spit, feces, drugs, or worse.
I can only imagine good old boy rednecks driving around, throwing bottles at homeless people, beating and raping them for fun. Because who are they gonna tell? And who would believe them if they did?

I totally understand your point, Metal. But my question is, what exactly are they supposed to do? Many of them have mental problems, a drug problem, or (and) a criminal record. They will never be able to get a job, so unless someone just chooses to start taking care of them I can't think of what they're supposed to do.
Lay down and patiently wait for death? They can't even do that... they're arrested if they lay down on public property, and shot if they lay down on private property.
I just can't even imagine how hard it would be.
