"I would NEVER.....EVER.....leave without paying on the off chance that a waitress would have to cover the cost of my food. Regardless."
Nobody left without paying for the food they ate. The only thing that wasn't paid for was the steak that went back to the kitchen. Two other meals were paid for, plus a baked potato, salad, and drink for the person that was served the nasty steak. The waitress simply took the steak off the tab as the owner should have.

The waitress said she would take it off and take a chance on bearing the cost of it herself. Good waitress, bad food and bad owner attitude.

Sorry you had a bad experience. Theo has always been very nice to me, though.

Momoftwo, I would think about giving Pirate's Landing another chance, except for the attitude of the owner/manager. When my friend's prime rib arrived, it was still cold in the middle and almost impossible to cut, full of gristle. They took it back and cooked a bit more, brought it back and she still needed a saw to cut it. The waitress told her all the cuts were the same and if they cooked another it wouldn't be any different.
My friend said she would just have the potato, salad, and beverage if that was the case. The waitress was very nice and offered to go talk to the owner about the steak. The owner came over to the table and said all the cuts were the same and they were all good quality (he couldn't explain why you couldn't cut the thing). They even brought another knife, lol.
When the waitress brought the check, my friend was told the owner wasn't going to take the steak off. My friend said she wasn't paying for it, regardless. The waitress said she would take it off and take a chance on bearing the cost of it herself. Good waitress, bad food and bad owner attitude.
BTW, I ate my shrimp, but it was a bit rancid/greasy for my taste. There is better seafood around too.

Pirates Landing is not that bad, 8 miles wide. You should give them another chance, maybe they had an off night?

I am the chicken/seafood kinda gurl. I might eat a steak 4 times a year, but ONLY if I can cook it. So I would have to say Happy's House :) :D :D :D

I ate at Jeffery Adams in downtown Winston tonight and ohhh my godddd it was good. My daughter got the ribeye and I got the beef tips with cheddar grit cakes topped with red peppers and spinach, covered with a bacon/mushroom gravy. The appetizers were the best I had ever eaten and the chocolate moose cake was to die for. I am stuffed. You guys have to check it out.
