But, it was said the fine went to the state. Why was that offered?

When it is demanded or court ordered to pay....like a tag, tax and title fee...it's all a fine/tax/fee/compensatory damage...blah blah blah!!!!

Because every web site devoted to the story starts with....Bakers fined.

Correct. Had it been a fine, they could not use the bankruptcy to get out of it.

Wish I could find this video
I got into a discussion with my neighbor about gun control. He said, I bet if you asked the founding fathers what they thought about gun control, they wouldn't like it. I said, if you ask the founding fathers about what they thought about gun control, they'd respond with 'What's this I hear about women voting? And who is that in the White House? Is that one of Thomas Jefferson's kids?'" http://www.buddytv.com/arti...54097.aspx
I know it's not the same topic, but the punchline is the same, anyway.

Slavery existed before written history. It flourishes today in one form or another.

Or a woman's right to vote and own property.

Runkle, yeah, and those founding fathers also didn't know that they would have to address the issue of slavery.

The law says that they can't refuse service, but they could have avoided the whole thing by charging a higher rate for certain services. A gay-friendly cake for $10,000 would have been perfectly legal.
Or they could have just taken down the sign, and saved $135,000.
Not that they'll ever pay a penny of it, of course.

Somebody said the founding fathers must be spinning in their graves. I agree.
They never thought they would need to address the abomination of gay marriage in their works.

I wonder if he joined forces with a Hate group to raise money to pay his fine.

Maybe they would have received more money if the shoes were on the other feet. Just being sarcastic, but these laws are in place are there to protect everyone, including Christians.
The BOLI Final Order awards $60,000 in damages to Laurel Bowman-Cryer and $75,000 in damages to Rachel Bowman-Cryer for emotional suffering stemming directly from unlawful discrimination. The amounts are damages related to the harm suffered by the Complainants, not fines or civil penalties which are punitive in nature.
The Final Order notes that the non-economic damages are consistent with the agency's previous orders, such as an earlier ruling against a Bend dentist In the Matter of Andrew W. Engle. In that case, BOLI awarded a Christian employee $325,000 in damages for physical, mental and emotion suffering due to religious discrimination and harassment.
From the BOLI press release.

Oops, you guys are right, and I was wrong. The money DOES go to the couple;

I'm surprised by that, and it doesn't seem right. This should have been a case of them violating the law, not a civil suit. And the damages couldn't have been anywhere near that much.
