All I'm saying is I can't understand why you want a cake baker to go against his beliefs, yet You wanted equal rights to be able for gays to be together under the law. You fought for What you believed was your rights .now you want to take away other people rights. No way did it hurt gays or anyone else when he refused to bake cake. That's pushing your beliefs on,the baker saying he can't do what he believes just so you get your way . What if someone wants Christian cake baked from a non believer, they refuse to bake it. Would you feel same way?

Of course! A gay baker could not refuse to bake the cake based on the customers religious affiliation. if the did refuse, they would be breaking the law and would have to face the consequences.

No, it's a court fine, not a lawsuit. The fine goes to the state.

Am I understanding the "fine" will be paid directly to the couple?

That's true, Umpire. They just passed the law in 2008, though, and this suit was filed 2013.

There's an interesting twist that I did not realize. The law that they broke wasn't turning away the gay couple, it was the written and public announcement that they will turn away all gay couples:

http://www.slate.com/blogs/...akery.html

They continued to break the law even after they were advised to just take down the sign. That's why they were fined.

So it appears that both sides were trying to make a political statement. The bakery owners are just the ones that lost.

I truly feel for this gay couple. I am sure it wasn't their intent to put this bakery into a financial shambles and force them to close their business, and work from home. I am sure they didn't foresee this outcome as it was unprecendented. I'm sure it will be difficult for the couple to live with this for the rest of their lives. It must feel horrible.

Maybe they will return the money or donate to an organization to feed the hungry. That would be lovely and show no ill intent.

If I were gay, I would bake a cake for Christians.

Being gay doesn't make a person a bigot.

DISCRIMINATION BY A BUSINESS IN OREGON IS AGAINST THE LAW.

PERIOD.

NO IFS, NO ANDS, NO BUTS.

CASE CLOSED.

Yes agnostic thanks for pointing that out. But, it does make me wonder why gays would want to be a part of something that was instituted by that same organization and seek the approval of them in order to feel "normal". The cake is just a smoke screen, if this couple could not afford to go to Walmart and get a cake, they simply do not have enough money to be thinking marriage. Using a red herring to attack anyone is unbecoming.

It wasn't about a religious ceremony, it was about married couples have more than 1,000 rights given to them that civil unions did not have.

They weren't even close to equal. Gay people just wanted equality.

But yes, the bakery was obviously a scapegoat. The gay couple knew that they would say no from the beginning, so they just did this for attention and to hurt the owners of the bakery. Like WTOP said, that was more than a little hypocritical on their part.

don't matter it's still against his beliefs. If Christian asks for God cake to be baked and they refuse they can be sued also. Would you still back the Christian if they sued baker?

Most of my business comes from great Christian couples - I work for a group of attorneys of which 1 specializes in divorce.

Your a moron if you think a bunch of nasty confused people have more rights than the owner does in his on bakery

*you're

It's a contraction for you are. Your indicates possession. I'm sure I make lots of grammatical errors, but I try not to do so when calling someone else a moron.

Assuming people get married to be part of a christian community? I thought they were the ones who claim that marriage is one man one woman, not many men, many women.

What about Buddhists who get married? are they seeking the approval of a christian community?

Are you saying same-sex couples shouldn't strive for anything better than McDonald's and a Walmart cake for their special occasions?

Your point doesn't make sense.

I'm not a big fan of the gay thing but the last ones who should criticize them should be people who believe that a raped, unengaged virgin must marry her rapist and they can never divorce (Deuteronomy 22:28-29).
