H.o.l...that sucks. I too have ridden from childhood. A lady ran a red light and hit me. Broke my neck, ****ered my leg..laid me up for a year.
I have 2 bikes and am looking for a 3rd.

I swear, if I get killed, it will be some teanager texting or checking her Facebook while driving.

My brother lovesss motorcycles.....but he was sitting still at that intersection in front of Lowes....it was dark but he lights up like a christmas tree, so there was no excuse by the person who hit him. He was thrown into the Dodge Dealerships parking lot, just eat up with road rash, torn to pieces. Guess what he does every year? Trades in last years model for a new one....he is just 40.....you'd think thats old enough to know better though.BTW I'm not putting down bikes, he's rode since the cord was cut!

Going the way of the No-True-Scotsman argument now. Not everyone who rides a scooter does so as the result of DUI. The vehicle people use to get to work and what route they take to get there is entirely at their own discretion. Again, why do you hate freedom so much?

If one loses their job due to a dui...it just isn't my problem...it was their choice to drink and drive. Pandering to the irresponsible doesn 't keep the roadways safe for all, especially on 268 going to work at LP or even the backroads as you suggest.

"The best solution would be to 4-lane every highway in the state, maybe including a bike lane. But that's going to cost a lot of money, so it's probably never going to happen."

I wonder if a judge would accept that as a defense, because one decided to drink and drive get caught.

I can hear the judge now...well mr or ms so and so...we have moped/scooter dealer right here in town...I'm sure they would be more than happy to oblige you with one for a fair price...being that 4 laning 268 is outta of the question...so I reckon the state is somewhat responsible for your dilemma...of course that is after I suspend your license and you at least pay court cost, I know you gotta save your fine money to purchase your transportation.

If anyone puts themelves in a position to loose their license, it's on them....they best be begging anyone and everyone to get themselves to work on time.

Dang, what did you folks do before the invent of the moped!!!

you can't take nc268 seriously. he wouldn't say boo to a baby. the more he runs his mouth, the more chicken **** we know he is.

for the record. my scooter and my motorcycle both have saddlebags and the entire rear surface is reflective. I wear a hi-viz vest, and i have a reflective helmet. blind morons like him who still drive are a menace to society

Wilkes County Sheriffs department and the NC State Highway patrol could possibly have great interests in this thread if for say someone is hurt or killed on a moped, scooter, motorcycle or someone walking or running.

421 is a long, long road a lot of accidents happen some are always in question maybe this would explain some or at least cause some really in depth investigations to the authors of these threat postings.

Looks like a maybe a few examples of communication of threat on this thread and being a motor vehicle would be involved that could also be assault with a deadly weapon. The admission of perhaps poor vision could lead to drivers license being revoked.

Poetic justice would be to see people making these threats reduced to riding a Moped to work.

Hopefully people will Screen Capture this thread and forward directly to the proper authorities if nothing else keep it for the record.

The idea of losing one's driving privileges should be just that...you've lost your privileges....that doesn't mean, that you sell your soul for a moped to get right back on public roads...where for the most part, most folks still retain their driving privileges.

That's what is wrong....it doesn't matter who is at fault in these accidents...the moped driver doesn't have the privilege of being back on the roadway, especially a high speed roadway.

If I must retain my right and license to drive...on a public road...then EVERYONE should do the same. If I decide I want to be a wreckless and careless driver...and I lose my privilege to drive....then I don't go out and sell the farm for a moped...and get right back on the roadway.

These kind of punishments are useless...as we can see!
The problem with this logic is that people make mistakes and pay the price, but they still have to work.

Let's say that you live in the apartments behind Olive Garden, and work at LP in Roaring River. You get a DUI and lose your license for a year. How are you supposed to get to work? Even with a moped, how could you possibly get to work without being on any major highways?

Taking the option of all travel away means that they lose their job and become another welfare case. Which doesn't help anything.

The best solution would be to 4-lane every highway in the state, maybe including a bike lane. But that's going to cost a lot of money, so it's probably never going to happen.

the_reader is correct and the e speed limit is with ideal conditions and was established when drivers gave 100% of their attention to driving. Use your common sense people, if you can't be late, get an early start. If you're already late then there's even less reason to hurry.

Why does everyone think that the speed limit is a minimum. It is a MAXIMUM. Roads that have minimums are posted. Cars are allowed to go 35mph in 55mph so just legally pass and quit acting like your car is more important than a moped on the roads because it is not. Roadways are for bicycles as well and you don't hear the same BS being spouted about uninsured bikers. No matter your vehicle (motorized or pedal) watch the road.
