Day of the Dead wedding themes are not all that uncommon. Maybe in Wilkes but not other places.
If you are only going to have 40 guests you do not need a large, expensive cake. There are a number of people that bake cakes from their homes or grocery stores that should be able to accommodate. You could do your own decorations and favors with the help of friends and family for a small wedding.
You should definitely contact Wilkes Playmakers to see if you could rent Benton Hall. I do know they have rented in the past for receptions. The one I attended was beautiful. They might also have ideas to help you with your theme.
It's your wedding. Do what you want to do. Best wishes.

If your theme is going to be 'day of the dead' you could probably get married in a funeral home or mortuary or you could even get married in a cemetary. Wouldn't that be memorable? May not cost that much as they will not be burying anybody, at least I hope not.

I am ordained. If you are not able to find a minister, let me know. I would be happy to help out.

1goddess (view profile) | 1st we could do some congregational spell casting to get the wedding procession under way...then after the ceremony itself...and prior to the cutting of the cake...we could hold a sance, you know those deceased loved ones would really like to participate too. Just think of the ghostly energies going on about the reception room. Then there would have to be the blessing of the Bride and Groom Brooms...
I could go on and on.....

Please do !!

Sounds like a fun theme for a wedding. The suggestion of having a friend get ordained online to perform the wedding might be your best bet.
You can rent the Wilkesboro Civic Center. I think you call the town of Wilkesboro to rent it.

you could have one of your friends be the minister its online and free kinda but there should be no problem with the type of wedding your planning

Kevin-- I would suggest Benton Hall...that would fit the theme really well since it's a historic site. I think it holds maybe 80 people for a reception? Lowes Foods will do wedding cakes so you should be able to find something in the price range. Good luck :)
