Raising the minimum wage will do nothing but inflate prices across the board. All it does is create a new low. It is higher than the current minimum, but it'll still be MINIMUM wage. What good does that do? Really?
I wish people would understand that.

The minimum wage doesn't need to be raised. People just need to 1. Graduate 2. Try not to get pregnant or get someone pregnant when you're only 14 3. Get off the pills 4. Set some goals 5. Find a job you like and work hard...bosses take care of good workers

>The minimum wage falls far short of what's needed to afford the fair market rent for a 2-bedroom housing unit in this county the housing wage needed is 1.7 times higher than the minimum wage
This is very telling and sad. The minimum wage needs to be increased.

We need Mike and Bev back....They posed us all for this snapshot.
I think it funny that people complain McCrory is a republican and has not fixed the problem in his year and a fraction and yet people say look at the mess that Bush left Obama with. Can we just agree that no one but Putin can save our country?

Pay particular attention to the last section:
SUPPORTS FOR WORKING FAMILIES
* 7,923 of the county's residents received assistance from the food and nutrition or food stamp program in December 2007 when the Great Recession began. By December 2013, the number increased by 72.4% to 13,661 and the share of residents receiving assistance reached 19.5%.
* In 2012, 6,815 tax filers in the county claimed the state Earned Income Tax Credit, which is a tax credit that goes to people who work but earn low wages. The benefits totaled $798,285 dollars that supported local businesses and helped these workers make ends meet, allowing them to keep more of what they earn and support their children. Lawmakers eliminated this tax credit in 2013.
So the need for assistance in just this one area has grown by 72% since 2007 and our lawmakers have taken away the tax credit that not only helps those individuals, but also fuels local businesses.
No, I did not get one of these tax credits.

An Economic Snapshot of Wilkes County was released today by the NC Justice Center. I found it interesting, and a little disappointing:
And you can view snapshots for other counties here:
