Rear assisted braking is a real thing and will stop a car from backing into things

I actually do think these cars would be a good idea. The problem is Russian hackers.

Which suggests, robots would be an improvement.

After driving around this country for a long time, I am convinced most cars are driverless.

Good point. Half these people are still on dial up.

Fins you must remember that you are trying to bring Wilkes out of the past. Some remember riding horses or mules for transportation, and was totally against the automobile.Golly Ernest I bet that car cost $20:00 new!

Many new vehicles have back up cameras, sensors along all sides of the vehicle to alert for a close object, even camera angles that let the driver see a birds eye view of the vehicle to see what's near by. These are very nice features. However, taking someone 75 and throwing them into such an environment may be more distracting than help.

It was just a question about backing using the driver assist feature ...I though about my Dad and him getting older that's all .

They where some on here talking about having problems parallel parking...that requires backing .
I also stated that everyone should have to take a test ...so its not only about old people .

Why only old people? Because you like to think that you are a great driver?

Does this driver assist features work in reverse ?

I think everyone that gets behind the wheel should have to be tested on a course on backing and be able to back up by using their mirrors only . It should be a requirement .
I could see this driver assist feature helping with older people and their daily driving though...Older meaning 75 and up .

Micky, you are really working hard to prove my point.

PO....I know what you mean....HL and CH are right (imagine that, they agree on something!)

Maybe practice on 9th Street on a Sunday..:)

...but don't let BASK catch you being a clever human.

It would be funny!

Your idea of funny is weak at best.

micah, that's basically what I do. It's so embarrassing when you spend 5 minutes trying to get in the space and then eventually just decide to leave. And I know I'm not the only one who can't parallel park either, I see other people abandon it halfway through all the time. Which makes the idea of automated driving appealing to me

I wish I had park assist on my car. I just can't parallel park, I don't even try anymore

Growing up in Wilkes you rarely have to parallel park. I would suggest before vacationing in a busy city where parallel parking is the norm, to maybe practice a few times. Not trying to be a smart arse, just a suggestion that will help you not get screamed at by the locals.

@Pollock...I'll tell you the secret to parallel parking.

1. Pull alongside the car in front of the parking space you want.
2. Begin backing up and when your passenger door is lined up at the back corner of the other vehicle..
3. Turn your steering wheel sharply to the right and continue backing in about 3 feet...
4. Ease the steering wheel slowly to the left and your tires will begin to parallel the curb as you backup.
5. Pull forward to center your vehicle in the space.

I hope that helps.
