TigerTom- Thats sort of what I meant. Aren't the sets of cylinders on opposite sides of the crankshaft?

reference unsafe at any speed to learn of the demise of this car. Our boy Ralph changed an industry with his ranting.

They are horizontally opposed, a flat 6, or a boxer engine. Just like the VW flat 4.

My dad had one back in the Early 60's. I don't remember the model. Caught fire while he was going down the interstate. Burned up on the side of the road. He tells the story like this funny thing happened to him.

They're cool old cars though. I'd like to have one. I like a good fire.

"Zombie- were these engines radial?"

Dude I have no idea, I just thought the engine looked unique and snapped a pic with my cell. Somehow reminds me of a lawnmower engine.

Zombie- were these engines radial? It's be so long ago since I've seen one. They were air-cooled. I once knew a guy that work on these engines and the engines out of VW's. He would pull them out and put them on a little pallet type stand that he'd built with rollers on the floor. He could crank the VW engines and run them while they were on the stand before he put them in the car. Hitler and the germans helped design the VW.

I had a girl friend years ago that drove one. It had a lot of space in the interior. Large bench seats, rear air-cooled engine. Simple as pie like a VW. If they would make them now they would sell like hot cakes. Too bad things can't be simple like that now. Son of a gun would go in snow like you wouldn't believe.

Yes I had a 64 Corvair and the Heater works off the manifold instead of heat from the radiator anti freeze. The reason is their heated like an old model Volkswagon because neither had a radiator, but was air cooled. If a head gasket ever started leaking it would pump that gas odor inside the car through the heater and about gas you to death. The heater vents was in the deep well , and blew out right in front of the back seat. The car drove and handled real good, but was not all that reliable. And it would go in the snow like a jeep if the snow wasn't to deep.
