Please bear in mind that all chicken is not alike. ome say the price of chicken is down. I/2 of chicken cost approx $2.00. then the charcoal, sauce, plates, cake, time, time, time. Please remember is it very difficult to try and cook chicken when the wind is blowing, sometime you will burn some to try and get it cooked. I'm not putting up an excuse for this group BUT remember this that I presented.

CIS is Communities in Schools.
This year, the best chicken has been from Boomer, with Broadway behind them a little. Down at Memorial, New Direction Ministries did a very good job.

If you had ever seen anyone take a leak in one of the pits at the park, which I have, you might be more inclined to eat the port a pit variety.

firty, who/what is CIS?
Other than that, I like your ideas about the shelter and info. If I'm buying random chicken from a group of people on the side of the road, I'd prefer to see them cooking it...

If you want good chicken, pay attention to the group that is holding the event. CIS always has fabulous chicken, cooked by Big Tim and his crew. The Ruritan and the Rotary clubs also do a good job. Fire depts also are known for their chicken. Couple of things I think the town of NW could do to make this better. I would require that the chicken be prepared on site in the barbecue pit that is there at the shelter. I am not sold on the so called Port-a Pit crew that is just hired for the day. Also, the town needs to put up a permeant, changeable sign at the shelter naming what group is preparing the chicken, the price and what time plates will be ready. Maybe even a cell phone # to call and reserve plates. Love going by and smelling the aroma in the river bottom.

Many of these fire departments still have good chicken. Many still cook it on charcoal. My brother gets his from Pleasant Hill and it's the best I've had by far. If you go down there when they have it you'd better be in line by 10:30 or they will sell out. Last time we went down there this summer the line was almost to the highway.

I agree tree cutter, I'm just to poor to afford it and chicken has kinda gotten cheap that I could all the **** chicken I wanted if I either cooked it or bought it cooked at just save. I had one plate burnt and paid far to much that it was my last trip since I can't afford it. I think the chicken fest has gotten out of hand and those either neglecting or having those who don't know what they're doing. How ever I think the one in boomer will be more to your liking as they have yet to screw up on cooking. I just can't make the trip or afford it right now.Either cause I'm to cheap or too poor lol. Used to be 5 bucks a plate and now it's more then that.
