You can buy tablets that work with wifi and also have a cellular chip in them. Just make sure you call the carrier that you can get on the tablet and ask them the price that it would be to add a tablet to a plan. They'll probably make you sign a 2 year contract in order to use their service. Something to keep in mind. Try to get a tablet that has Verizon wireless on it if you get one.

My kindle is old but I really like it. It goes to all appointments with me to either read a book or play a game.

I take my Kindle when I have to go to the Drs office & they have wifi but I rarely use it because the writing is so small & have to continually make it zoom in, but it's great to read a book or play Scrabble on while waiting. I also download free books thru bookbub from Amazon. It's more than worth it's weight in gold to me. Don't know if it's considered a tablet or not, I just call it my book.

You don't have to pay for a second number for a data connection on a tablet. But you do have to pay for the right to use your phone as a hotspot. And that costs as much as the data plan for a tablet.

They cost more initially than the plain wifi devices and then you have a monthly service plan for the 3G/4G.

You also have to pay for a second phone # if you access the internet with the tablet. I am a tightwad, bought my tablet without internet access, use my phone as a hotspot and access the internet that way.

Can you buy a tablet and have internet service on it just like you do on your cell phone. I know you can hook to the internet thru wireless.
