No problem Justus99. Sorry you were not able to get this issue resolved swiftly. If you have to setup a new email account do not be afraid to put your phone number in. It makes it easier to recover your password if there is ever a problem with your account. Also, Gmail offers some pretty nifty options to secure your account that also helps with recovering your password in the future.

http://www.mailboxapp.com/ This application will give you a run for your money (free app though), and it is cross platform so it works on ios, android, etc... It is used to manage your email and look pretty doing it.

Good Luck

Tex, Chris I was never able to get into my hotmail. At this point MS can stick it where the sun don't shine. Thanks anyway for all your help.

Did you get this issue resolved over the weekend? I know how detrimental loosing access to an account can be and I hope you are able to recover your login information soon.

yes your ms account name is your hotmail/outlook email address.

Chris when I check "forgot my password", the next screen asks for my MS account. Is the the same as my email name?

Also, hotmail is a microsoft product, it's just in a web version form like everything else they're doing now.

hotmail is actually outlook.com now, but your credentials are universal and will work with outlook. Have you tried going to the forgot my password link, and resetting your password?

It tells me "That password is incorrect. Be sure you're using the password for your Microsoft account". Now here's the kicker -- I don't have a MS account. Could that be why I can't get to my email account? I've accessed it before but not in a few months. I lost my password and found it. Has MS made this change? I don't have all that other stuff -- skype, xbox , cell phone etc.

Thanks Tek and Chris for all your input.

If we want to get on the topic of password managers, I would try Lastpass and also KeePass. Both very good password managers and both offer 2 step verifications.

I hope this is helpful and you are able to log back in successfully soon. I provided all of the information in hopes that someone else with stumble upon it and go, "Oh, I should probably take advantage of that extra authentication and maybe make my password more secure."

Good luck everyone out there on the internet, and keep safe.

One of my favorite applications to keep my passwords secure is Dashlane found at https://www.dashlane.com/

Dashlane uses military grade encryption and a single password to gain access to all your accounts. The password is never kept on Dashlane's servers or saved anywhere. You are the only one who knows the password to gain access to your password manager.

A good example of a very secure password is one that cannot be remembered, rather you have it written down because it is so difficult to remember. It might have upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols.

Here is a good one: KsPii#725****225

You can find some great information in this article to help you keep your account secure after you have regained access to it. Hopefully your password was just entered incorrectly too many times because your caps lock was on, but in the case of your account being breached by someone these steps will help you to recover your account.

When signing up for hotmail (or any online mailing account), you are asked for your cell phone number. This is used to recover your account if the worst happens. Once you have requested to recover your email, you will be called or receive a text with a unique code used to recover your email and reset your password.

It is possible that your email password was uncovered by someone else on the "interwebs". If you have setup password recovery settings on your account, now is the time to take advantage of them and change your password.

Is anyone have problems with hotmail? It tells me I'm putting in a wrong password and this is a bunch of BS. I have heard that MS is doing wierd things with the Hotmail. Anyone know what's happening?
