I really want to dig into this point and why I believe in this podcast so much.
These are the people making decisions, right here in Wilkes that will make a big difference in your lives. But this was one of the most informative conversations I've had.
Had to cut out some parts where service cut out...

So Kieth Elmore did a great cast, and of course it was great. Got some good information and answers to questions that needed clarifying. I'll have it out for you folks later.

Lol... IF ONLY I THOUGHT TO RECORD IT!
I was sitting beside commisioner Blevins and said "I'm baffled"... He got a chuckle.
I actually had no way to respond... But my catch phrase should now be "YOU WANNA JOB?!"

I should have a short one with Elmore tonight.. we're working on the technical stuff.

So I went to the Commissioner meet and greet... took notes.
I will say that my boy Bill, knocked it out of the park. No doubt about it.
There were some winners and losers in this one.
I'll give my breakdown another time... I got to get sleep.

It would be interesting to hear a younger point of view, and from a teacher's perspective.

It is also interesting to note, how a person's background tends to drive their way on solving a problem.

You need to talk to Johnson, he is young, informed and just an all around great guy. We need some young blood to come up with some new ideas. He is not a part of old boy system.

As far as Broyhill goes, he tried that VA idea years ago and it never got anywhere. I think it was because of the VA population in our area. Although it is a good thought, they only have VA hospitals in areas with a high VA population that are easily accessible.
Thanks for the work brandon, this has been very interesting.

As a side note commissioner Elmore is a bit of a gowilkes fan, and only found out about this because of us. So let's also support him and get all the others to get their voices heard.

holllllleeeeee crap foks I have had the best conversations....
Bill did the interview and we talked for 2 hours.
Keith Elmore reached back out for an interview as well and it's quick an interesting dynamic!
I'm loving every bit of this.
Elmore is "maybe" down for a friday evening interview. and Sexton's interview will go up tonight.
I appreciate all of you who listen and brought this to their attention.

Vets in Wilkes can use local doctors and hospital. If you are a vet talk to your doctor about it.

Lol thanks! I had been working on my Bernie impression but had no good way to shoehorn it in. Some joke about the inequality of pudding distribution.
I will agree, I did research on it and the nearest VA hospital is quite a drive away. Problem now is I did 2 recordings... I hated the first one and dumped it, and went with a new one. So I don't remember what I did say.

Yeah I'm a little on the fence with Johnson.

Being quick here I'm on my lunch.

I'm really debating on it. but I have to be up at 4am for work... so being out that late... I really want to go though.

Brandon, I like your podcast! You have a voice for radio. I listened to the first one when you first posted, but got distracted and never did give feedback. Btw, your Pee Wee impression was spot on but I'm amazed at how horrible your Trump impression is, haha!

As far as the candidates...

I liked Broyhill's idea of a VA hospital. At least he was a candidate that actually presented a new idea! You mentioned about construction jobs but also administrative jobs at a VA hospital pay pretty well, especially considering the cost of living in Wilkes. I'm not sure what all goes into the process of getting a VA hospital brought to Wilkes but since he served as a Wilkes Veterans Service Officer for 38 years, seems like he might be the guy who knows how to facilitate that type of deal. I'm interested to hear what other ideas Broyhill might have.

Also, I know Johnson is young and may be a little green but a teacher's perspective and youth might be a nice change of pace for Commissioner's office. Several candidates mentioned that they want children to return to Wilkes County after college or stay in Wilkes County and Johnson might be the best candidate with insight and ideas on how to attract young people to Wilkes. But I can't tell from that small excerpt in the paper if Johnson has good ideas or not.

I hope you'll show up to the meet and greet and do a followup podcast about it.

By the way Fins did you give the cast a listen? how terrible was that song? I did it in one recording and didn't care... I thought the worse the better.

Sure man. I PM'd you my number since it might be easier to text.
I also finally found the culprit in my buzzing mic.... the pre-amp was set too highso recording might sound better I haven't tested it.

Yes I have. And I need to get up with you on some schedule stuff

The ABC moonshine is as real as any other moonshine. It's made the same way as the modern illegal stuff. It's just cut more.

The Junior Johnson stuff is rough. The it's old fashioned sugar head with some fruit thrown in to make it drinkable.

Did anyone ever try that junior johnson stuff?

I've said for years that Wilkes county is missing out on the key tourist aspect and that is moonshine.

Moonshine festival. Flavored "moonshine" is on trend and growing. I know what you buy in the ABC store is not the real deal. But hey ya gotta start somewhere.
