Bitter old man, I don't disagree with you at all. Maybe I should've left word out again. Just looking for some great ideas on what would be great here for families to do, ways to spark up clubs activities for all ages. Just some good ideas. Events that would draw crowds.

I wonder why people stay if Wilkes is such a terrible place. As one who actually chooses to live here I feel that Wilkes is the best choice I have made. I have lived in metropolitan areas with more "entertainment" options but those places came with their own problems. I have lived in more rural areas and those places also had their unique issues.
I like the original posters' question except for the final word, "again." I think that each of us can contribute to the general greatness of our communities. How many of us look for opportunities to contribute to their greatness instead of waiting for someone, anyone, to make it great?

I would say that the biggest thing we could do to improve the county would be to get 421 designed as an Interstate. It already connects multiple states so it meets the definition of an "interstate" (lower case), but having it designated as an "Interstate" (upper case) would put us on the radar for a lot of mid-level businesses.

This is a trick question, what do you think caused it to not be great in the first place?
IMO, the county started to go downhill after Walmart came to town. It brought lower prices, sure, but along with that came lower quality, and all of the other retail businesses in the county died. So now all we have are junk stores and low end stuff... if you want anything better you have to shop out of town.
But the population has gone up since then, which means that we have more restaurants. Granted they're mostly fast food, but still.
In spite of the growing population, entertainment options for adults have decreased. That's a weird one, it's usually the other way around.
