The numbers really don't mean a lot in this configuration. The scope is from Obama era and who he would and wouldn't classify as an extremist.

I think the author's point was that the violence by white supremacist extremists has amped up, or been fueled by Trump's presidency, however, and unknowingly making the case that Islamic violence by extremists has decreased. While blaming Trump, you're crediting him, as well.
The key word in both cases is extremism and violence. Anyone reasonable doesn't believe in either or white supremacy or Islamic terrorism.
It's all bad
