Unless it is a prototype. That has all been covered, but thanks for showing up.

S&W started putting serial numbers on their handguns in 1857. So if it was made after 1930 it would definitely have a serial number

There might be a serial number under the grips.

S&W was using serial numbers pre-20th century, although a lot of smaller manufacturers and imports did not use numbers until 1968.

It could be as new as 67-8 , serial numbers were not required before 1968

Gunbroker.com has several listed. Duncan gun shop would be a good place to start. Tell them you don't want to sell the gun, you are looking for a value for insurance purposes. The ones on GB start at $300, but that has very little to do with yours. I know of a few modern S&W revolvers without serial numbers that are super rare prototypes. That does not mean your pistol is a prototype, just that there is a precedent for no serial number. Good luck with it.

I'll take those shells if they fit. But I'd like my money back on the new box I bought if anyone can use them.

168, It is not in my possession right now, I let a guy that knows about guns look at it for me because the new bullets wouldn't fit & I have better sense than to try to fire one when the bullets don't fit right. I fired it 3 times with the bullets that were in it already, it fires perfectly, I still have my hand. He told me it was made between 1930 - 1960. We've researched it & can't find out much, that's why I'm asking y'all for help. I'll put some pics up soon as I get it back. I intend to sell it but need to know what's it's worth.

With no serial numbers and in that caliber its definitely old, I suggest you take it to some one like Rick at church's and let him have a look at it

Its probably not a 38spl but a 38 s&w which is a shorter much less powerful round. Do not attempt to force a 38 spl into the cylinder. With out looking at it I can not give you any info on what it might be worth

It's not on that site, come on guys, what's it worth? It shoots good! But the bullets we bought for that type gun don't fit, so what's up with that? They're what it calls for but are shorter than the original bullets. Now I'm stuck with a box I don't need.

You can look on gunbroker to see what others have sold for. But keep in mind yours is not in as good of shape as you think.
