The cost to the poor would be offset by increases in their incomes. Instead of the county attempting to keep people off social programs the county would work to get more people on social programs paid for by state and federal moneys. Then if we actually try, Wilkes could get more jobs. We can't keep doing the same thing and expect different results. We are in trouble. We need to start thinking outside the box.

Springy has some good ideas !!! The tax on the poor not so much but it's time for a real change I'm sure springy will see that taxing the poor won't be a good thing .

There are some 40% of people in Wilkes who don't pay any taxes under the existing system. That would change, 100% of the people would pay some taxes under my plan.

That's the whole point, 1048. They don't pay taxes because they are poor. You are wanting to increase taxes on the poor so that the rich would pay less.

You should really read this:

They tell us we can't do that and we can't do that and we can't do that. In fact they tell us we can't do anything. I call BS, We can do anything within the parameters of the Constitution. The county belongs to the people, not the fat cat good old boys.

The good old boys have everything locked up. I intend to make waves. Kick in doors if I have to and break the backs of the good old boys.(not literally)

I know that but no door is ever completely closed. What is not allowed today can be allowed tomorrow. We just have to make a case and sell it to the people. The politicians will follow the will of the people.

I fully support this idea of you running. I think it's the best idea anyone has had in decades.

For you critics, I wouldn't worry about the sales tax idea. Let the boy find out in a debate that the state won't allow an increase like that.

Something as simple as changing a few regulations would improve the lives of Wilkes citizens. Like reducing the regulations on mini-homes. We have a **** setting up there doing practically nothing and with the capability of producing millions of watts of energy. Energy the county could use to decrease the cost of the county energy needs.

Even that would be counterbalanced by other programs. The net effect would be an over all increase in personal spending money for the people of Wilkes.

The county can't do anything about income taxes. We have to work with what we can. The idea is to lower the effect of taxes on each individual while increasing county revenue. There are some 40% of people in Wilkes who don't pay any taxes under the existing system. That would change, 100% of the people would pay some taxes under my plan.

The percentage is the same but the amount is different.

If you are lower income you aren't buying $300 pair of jeans, you are buying a $15 pair or cheaper. That's the way it works.

If you really want to help the working poor, do away with income tax and tax base solely on what is purchased.

I cant say what I really think but great thread. I needed a good laugh.

I understand that. I am only promising to attempt this. However, I am not afraid to go to the news papers/on line and point out who is blocking my progress. I will make sure the people of Wilkes knows what is going on.

I would suggest that you be very cautious about your campaign promises. Once you are on the board you are only 1 vote out of 5, so unless you can get the others to go along with you then you can't get anything to pass.

But the average voter doesn't understand that, they just see a broken promise. Making you a 1 term commissioner.

I will go over every department and every county employee to find deadwood. I will try to eliminate redundant departments which would cut county employment and reduce county expense.

Posted 10:29 am, 12/03/2019

As far as wasting money or stealing money, I plan to go over the county budget line by line.

Sales tax is the fairer tax. Everyone will pay. There will be a tax cut. There will be no property tax. You will actually own your home and your car. People who have under the table income or even illegal income would pat taxes under this plan. You are correct, it does affect the poor more but I have a plan for that also. I have a plan that could increase the poor's income by as much as $1K a month each. This plan would increase Wilkes's GNP by as much as $5 Million a month which would increase employment also.

Hangs......you're wrong about sales tax not hurting the poor.

It's not about automobile purchases, but essential purchases.

1048 for 2020!!!

Eliminate the 2% local sales tax on food and groceries (excluding candy, soda, and alcohol), and then increase sales tax on luxury items. Then you might be on to something.

But don't campaign on it because the majority will not understand. All they will hear is "raise taxes." And it probably won't pass the vote because the other commissioners will be afraid that they will lose the reelection.

You might get the rich support, though, and that's all you really need to win.
