Oh yes, one other thing. Have a good menu with foods with low sugar. There are a lot of individuals in Wilkes with sugar problems and it seems no one is addressing this.

I have been thinking about this restaurant business for a while. What people want is good, cheap food with atmosphere. It don't have to be fancy foods as long as it is good and cheap. Something like pinto beans and corn bread and greens and corn bread. Make sure every thing is clean and attractive, including the cook and wait staff. Keep everything on your menu under $6.00.

LOL, this key board can't spell. First question you should ask, do I have the funds? Second question, do people really want the produce? Third question, can get it at Wal Mart? If you have the funds, people want it and you can't get it at Wal Mart, you may have a winner.

Pirate's Landing in Elkin has a good broiled and baked seafood variety, but they're pretty expensive

If Starbucks would do well here then support Talias and Anchors Coffee

Um no. Wilkes has a Sagebrush and can barely support it. It's always DEAD. Texas Roadhouse would never survive here even on 421.

Starbucks and Krispy Kreme could probably break even here, again would have to be on top of 421.

No one said Texas Roadhouse was fine dining, but it's a good restaurant. I love the rolls. I guess our closest restaurant to fine dining in Wilkes is Sixth and Main.

As for places here always frying seafood, I'm with you on that one. I'd love better options too. I don't like fried foods.

I got a medium coffee Monday morning at Wendy's for 27 cents with my old timers discount. I've never been in there in the morning but it was on my way from the Stock sale to Duncan's.

Nobody's going to give $11 for a cup of coffee and a bagel at Starbucks we have several where I live and their prices our way out of people's League here

You avoid downtown but expect a place you enjoy to stay open ? It doesn’t make sense to me but It’s that kind of mentality that helps places close down.

I get that you're just trying to start an argument, but you need to try harder. Where did I say anything about expecting them to stay open? I said,

"Is Anchor Coffee still open? They were a lot better, too, just in a bad location."

And I stand by that. Even if people weren't avoiding the downtown now, they're still hard to find. With Talia in North Wilkesboro, though, I never understood why they opened there when there were buildings available on Main Street in Wilkesboro. It's a mess right now, but once it's finished and the Open Air Market opens back they could probably do a lot better there.

So some peoples idea of fine dining is a Texas Roadhouse, oh good grief.

What you need is someone originally from Wilkes that is now a chef, help them open a small restaurant and stop with the fried fish.

Is anchor coffe still open ? Uhhhhh yes and the last time I was in there they were busy so location obviously isn’t to terrible , take a drive every once in a while and you might know these things yourself.

Sorry, UGP, but nowadays I avoid the downtown if I can. Last I heard, though, they were planning to move to Winston and close this location.
