Accident on New Brownsford Rd.

I have often been guilty of dialing my cell phone, answering my cell phone while driving...it's just NOT worth it. If you must make a phone call or text, please park somewhere to do so.

Dear Harleymom,

just to set the record straight, I was the first medic on the scene at that accident and the first one to get to Megan just moments after impact. After talking to the troopers just days ago, I learned it was determined that she was actually not texting at the time of the accident but was on the phone just prior to the event. In fact it was speed and her inexperience that was the root cause. She was operating the vehicle legally with a provisional permit not a full drivers license and it was indeed tragic. This should be a lesson for all of you parents out there to drill home the importance of 100% awareness while driving and how a matter of milliseconds can effect outcomes for a lifetime. The hardest thing that any of us first responders, EMTs, and people who serve the folks in our county has to do is witness a senseless loss of life due to an avoidable accident. Our hearts always go out to the families and friends of the victims and we try and treat everyone with comassion. Please help us save lives and let your kids know that texting and driving (like drinking and driving) just don't mix!

I hope folks will remember the driver of the other car, as well. Her ankle and heel are crushed and she is about to undergo surgery. She has been told that she will have to learn to walk all over again.

My prayers are with you and your son and all the other children that grieve..i think it makes them realize they are not immortal..even though they shouldn't be faced with such hardship so hard to see little hearts breaking when we are so used to seeing them so happy and full of life..keep the family and friends in prayer as will we

This brought tears to my eyes.

Megan was my sons friend. He was truly hurt by her passing. He has had a very hard time with it, as I am sure so many others have . She was a beautiful young lady inside and out. She is and will be greatly missed.

I am so glad that she was not alone. i am sure that this will help her family as well as her friends. Thanks you for reaching out to her. You will be blessed.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there for Megan..she was a darling girl who i had the honor of knowing for yrs..her Dad and I have been friends since high school and she was in the band with my son..I am blessed to have had time with her..

My son and I had left a band concert Thursday night after her funeral on Monday in which they placed a dozen red roses in her chair and her picture on her music stand and dedicated a song in her honor and memory..was very moving..we were at chik filet talking about it and the song i posted came on their satelitte feed..had never heard of the artist or song but silence fell..we both heard and were moved to tears

It was so appropriate that I know it was a gift and I am glad it moved you as well..May you find peace and strength through God knowing you held the hand of an Angel as she left for home..felt so compelled to thank you in this message....I pray for you..her friends and family..and all that grieve..i had hoped she went instantly and now i pray she went softly home..and i am so glad she wasnt alone

Thank you so much again for being kind and warm

my heartfelt words

Bella

This song is so touching. I was their for the one second she took her last breath. I held her hand and told her it was going to be alright. She squeezed mine and then she was gone. I didnt know her but I felt like I had forever. So young and beautiful. I can only imagine what her parents are feeling. May God be with them like he is for me. This is something that has changed my life forever. God Bless to all that are in pain.

The driver of the SUV was treated and released from Baptist. Everyone please remember to keep her and her family in your prayers as well. I am sure this is very difficult for her as well.

A Wilkes County teenager was killed in a head-on collision Thursday night that also injured a woman from Ferguson, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Megan Nichole Dula, 16, of 917 Foster Payne Road, Boomer, died in the collision. The other driver, Sandra Wolfe Harless, 54, of 1201 S. Goforth Road, Ferguson, was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

The collision happened at 8:26 p.m. on New Browns Ford Road, according to a report by Trooper J.R. Hall.

Dula was driving a 1999 Volkswagen car traveling south on New Browns Ford Road when she crossed the centerline, overcorrected, and crossed the centerline again into the path of an oncoming SUV driven byHarless, Hall said.

The report said Dula was traveling an estimated 50 mph and left skid marks of 192 feet. The Highway Patrolestimated her speed at impact to be about 40 mph. The posted speed limit is 35 mph. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to the report.

Mandi, I didn't know her either but I did the same thing this morning...went to her facebook page (to see if she looked familiar). I had tears while reading all the posts from her friends saying goodbye to her... As a parent, I couldn't help but cry for her, her family and her friends. A life cut short, it's so very, very sad.

Go to your own facebook page and at the top in your search bar type in "Megan Dula" and its the one at the top that says Boomer, NC. I dont know why the link is not working. The profile is not private.

This is a post she made last week:
