LOL Satan. I remember my days as office manager in a small furniture plant here in Wilkes. Had to sign up all the new employees with the typical forms. It took about an hour...from 7 to 8 AM. Many would work until the first break at 9:30, then leave and never come back. Then there was all that paperwork to get them off the payroll.

as racist as it sounds imo its the truth...
when i worked at Gardner Mirror we would bet cheeseburger on whether or not a new hire would come back after lunch break ...it was about 50/50

Duke, while I understand that some of the things like someone leaving on good terms and getting ill or something of the sort and not being allowed to come back to work is a bit ridiculous, I think it's insane for you to say to run them out of town. Do you realize how many Wilkes County people that Tyson employees? A LOT! What would those people do without that job. I can go ahead and tell you, anyone who works for Tyson works their a** off. I would hate to see what kind of shape that would leave Wilkes County in if Tyson were to pick up and leave Wilkes.

I wish tyson all not the best in luck with that..mr west is the one behind this new rule..tyson is a **** whole and really the only place to work in wilkes.....here tyson is in wilkes and sending people away because they might of worked there in the past and left on good terms..i know somebody that got cancer and tyson is trying to fire them..what they cant get there job back because they got cancer..tyson is ****y and people if wilkes need to tell mr west and tyson we will not stand for this and

Yes, you have to do exercise classes if you are hired before the start of your shift. They are simple things though like using small weights and a tennis ball to improve your grip. When they first told me about it, I thought it was optional but it's not! If you are not in the room when the class starts, then you cant work that shift and it is counted against you on the points system. I found out the hard way. I pulled into the parking lot on my first day of work 30 minutes early because I wanted to get there in time to find my locker and go to the restroom and things like that before work and I wanted to have plenty of time. Well, I could NOT find a parking spot in the entire lot. Drove every row from the bottom all the way to the top and no spaces were available. Other people were parked behind cars but there was some fussing going on in the parking lot because a person working first shift had came out to leave and someone coming in on second had parked behind them and they couldn't get out. ANYWAYS, finally found a parking spot and by the time I had gotten into the building, the exercise class was already started and the doors to the room were locked. Me and a few others who had just started just went on downstairs to start our shift. We were told that if we missed another exercise class that we couldn't work our shift that night and it would go against us. So, if you get a job there...MAKE SURE you get to those classes on time.

I worked there twice myself. Once for 4 years on 2nd shift, went to Ithaca on 1st shift for 6 years when my kids were young, then I finally got 1st shift back at Tyson for 15 years. Arthritis, age, and repetitive motion finally forced me to find an easier line of work, less pay and no benefits, but I can open my own bottle of Pepsi and tie my own shoes without screaming.

I am not blaming any company for my health problems, I probably would have had arthritis no matter where I worked.

it's been almost twenty-five years since I said adios to Tyson; Tyson didn't do Wilkes County any favors by absorbing Holly Farms into its already-vast empire; the Lovettes didn't do Wilkes any favors by allowing it to happen, either.

The younger you are near 18 to 20s and good physical condition, with no medical problems the closer you are to getting a job. Years ago they would put you through a physical, a drug test, and have you fill out a separate questionair from your regular application to list all the physical medical conditions you have. This makes it almost impossible for a middle age person with medical problems to get a job. I kept hounding them one time by calling every single day until they agreed to hire me after a favorable interview with Dr. Bond.

OT, but things could be different now.

Before the start of the shift - Interesting. A good thing they were paid for it!

The last new hire that I know said that they went to exercise class for 15 minutes before the start of the shift for 30 days. And yes, they were paid for the time.

Silly question - I heard something about exercise classes before the start of the shift. Is that correct?
