I always give the paper person at the corner more than the cost of the newspaper. He/She stands out in the cold, rain, or whatever and brings that paper to my car, it’s worth a tip! At the end of the day, feel good about it.

Hey plick...

https://www.snopes.c...tip-sheet/

There are more websites that refute your claim than support it..gawd...just knowing the difference between "insure" and "ensure" would have saved you some embarrassment

No, that had nothing to do with the point.

the whole point is.... you go into a café with a party of 8...... they add the gratuity on to your check...its then a part of your bill and not a "tip"

Best tip ever = get a job where You don't rely on the generosity of others for 70%+ of Your wages.

Picker, it means no such thing. "Insure" is not even used right. "Insure" is arrange for compensation in the event of damage to or loss of (property), or injury to or the death of (someone),
" ensure" is to make certain that (something) shall occur or be the case, or to make certain of obtaining something.

Your supposed "definition" is a misnomer that has been refuted many times.

Tipping?? When the mailman delivers your mail do you run out there and give him a Tip or how about the lady that sells Wilkes Newspapers on the street of North Wilkesboro when you buy a newspaper from her doyou give her a Tip or when you stop at a service station to buy some gas after you pump it do you go back in the station to give them a Tip all this is someone looking for more money in their Tip

Its not demeaning them...... that is the definition behind TIP...... its not just a gift to be given , it like whatever wage they are paid is to be earned.... not just taken for granted. It is a bonus to your pay. Do you expect to receive a year end bonus if you have just scraped by at doing your job?

I recall stopping at Sonic for a milkshake a couple of years back. A teen age male brought the shake to my automobile with a smile on his face. I told him to keep the change. He grinned and replied; you don't know how much I appreciate it , it makes all of the difference in the world at the end of the week! I 'll pay a buck, twenty five any day of the week if it helps that much.

I only give a tip if I had a sit down meal and a waiter or waitress waited on me. I do the standard 10-20% tip usually.

Well, if I order to go at somewhere with actual servers, I usually leave 10%. But that's different from the places that don't actually do any table serving at all. Papa Johns, Village Inn, Shanghai Express, Talia, I could probably think of others. I don't tip at Burger King, why do these places think I should tip?

It's all gotten out of hand!

Remember when you call in an order a wait staff person has to get that order ready. It takes their time to get everything together that you ordered. Maybe fix your salad, get your catsup, napkins straws and anything else you requested and make sure you have everything In your order. So yes, this person deserves a tip. It’s a long night if that’s your job and you are not waiting tables. They don’t just ring you up.

I think when you sit down you should place a $20 on the table...... if your glass gets empty-- subtract and so on......To Insure Promptness. It was in Lloyd’s Coffee House that a brass container for the benefit of waitrons was first inscribed with the words “To Insure Promptness”. The idea was that a patron would put an amount of money into the container before sitting down to insure promptness of service from the waitrons.

I don't tip if there is no wait service. But I do tip when I pick up a "to go" order. Most likely it was a waiter/waitress who took my order. They do not make minimum wage, so I tip them. I do not usually tip at counters where you place and pick up your order(even though they may have a tip jar out). Those employees make at least minimum wage. I tip the lady who does my nails because she does not own the business, but I do not tip my hairstylist who owns her salon. And 20% is now the recommended tip, but I usually tip 15% to 18%, depending on the quality of the service. I don't give the mail person, UPS, Fed-X , etc.or the garbage collector gifts at Christmas. I do give to the Salvation Army during the Christmas season. I do tip the guys who wash my tires when I go to the car wash.

I really hate the fact that if you order a pizza and have it delivered they charge you a delivery FEE and then expect you to tip on top of that. Just easier for me to go pick it up myself.
