Roy Cooper: raise NC teacher pay to first in Southeast

antithesis

I hope you guys can see, ht outlined the problem very well for you. We want to be competitive on a national level, and even an international level. We want higher paying jobs to come to NC. But none of that happens if our students have an inferior education.

And that doesn't improve by getting the cheapest teachers on the market.

We want good, high paying jobs, then it starts with good, quality education for the workforce. And that starts with recruiting the best teachers, which requires a competitive salary.

Just to be clear- that's $750 total, not like every month extra. McCrory did not help teachers, but he did dip into public school funds for charter schools. Grrr ...

That's not what I make, and I have a master's and my National Boards.

I am a loooooog way from 55k, and this is my 12th year. We had a hiring freeze from Bev all the way through Pat, although he tried to say he gave us a raise. I think when we completely totaled it out, it was like $750 in our checks (this was another teacher with similar experience). Younger teachers were the ones who got the bump.

I'd rather work most "real jobs" than try and control 25 varmints I'm not related to.

Oh redfly, you gave me hope! It's truly not about the money (I LOVE what I do), but so many positions are being left unfilled because current college students are not interested in working really hard with tremendous responsibility for less than a living wage. Some people cannot afford to live in the communities where they teach on what they are paid.

LOL, a 5% pay raise. Way to Goooooo Mr Big Pockets. Why not make the teachers salaries 1st in the Nation instead of this piddly arse junk.

She sounds like she has real knowledge on this subject, just think about how much more difficult it may to deal with unaware angry parents more so than unruly children

If you have not ever worked as a teacher you don't need to judge you don't only have the students to deal with you have the parents

Try 25+ years for that amount, Sparky

Many actually make 60 grand.

A masters degree, board certification and a decade of experience ought to do the trick.

Throwing a fixed number at it isn't thought out. $60k for a job in Lumberton County is very uneven compared to $60k for a job in Wake.

I agree they don't deserve 200k a year. But 60-70 grand is definitely appropriate

Dude. I'd rather do anything than teach 25 kids.

Fins you're missing the point or just being provocative.

Can you make kids do push ups and run with a pack?

Sparkling, those darn varmints

Pollock

I have a feeling you couldn't handle most kids. It takes a special person with patience and knowledge to not only manage children's behavior but to also teach them something in the process

Teachers don't work hard. There are much harder jobs out there, and they don't get summers off

Azzhole, are you saying the future of our nation should be uneducated? Teachers work with the best sources they have, most of the time paying for supplies out of their own pockets. I think parents should take the initiative and be their children's primary educator but this just isn't the case most of the times, so respect teachers!

Is this just for public school teachers? Or will it include charter school teachers as well?
