It is supposed to be 48 in the morning. Good lord! I love it.! There is just something about a easy rain on a Fall morning.

I don't know what changed but so far I haven't had that white banner pop up. Fingers crossed.

I'd rather you didn't, because it's still costing me money with no ability to recoup it And I'd much rather you be able to post more often without constantly being nagged, because that's just going to make you want to stop posting.

If disabling DuckDuckGo didn't stop the warning then there has to be another security program running that's causing the problem. It doesn't look like you're using a VPN, so that's the only other variable.

I'm guessing that you're using Windows 11? Email or PM me and I'll see what I can do to help you fix it.

Yes, I disabled it then came to GW and lo and behold, that white pop up again. I haven't loaded any security software so it can't be that unless it was factory installed. I'm just going to live with the pop up and accept it as part of my life.

Did you try disabling it to see if that stopped the warning? It's possible that they have a recent update that included an ad blocker.

If you disabled it and still get the warning then something else must be the culprit. Do you have any security software running in the background that could be causing it? A lot of low quality security software will block cookies and ads, then pretend that they protected you from something so that you'll feel like the software is worth something

The only add-on in that screen is Duckduckgo which is my preferred search engine. I used it on my old computer and never got the white pop-up I'm seeing on GW now?

I don't know much about DuckDuckGo, but I know it's almost a scam. It basically replaces people's ads with its own ads so that it makes money instead I wouldn't be surprised if it registers as an ad blocker.

Firefox could have another ad blocker extension installed, too, though. Go to Menu (the horizontal ||| button in the upper right), then "Add-ons and themes".

Try disabling anything that's listed one at a time, and see if you get the warning on here again.

You must have something on there that's blocking ads. A VPN, maybe? The notice you're seeing comes from Google, and you have something running that they recognize as an ad blocker.

JC, this is a new desktop and I haven't loaded anything on it other than Firefox and Duckduckgo, would lenovo installed an adblocker or VPN (whatever that is) at the factory?

JC

Haha, sorry about that! I also flag all references to ad blockers because, obviously, I don't exactly want to call attention to them and encourage people to use them.

I don't have an ad blocker on this computer

and my internet isn't free, I pay a bill every month unless I use free WiFi while I'm out and about.

Your internet service doesn't have anything to do with me, that's just you paying them to let you browse the web. I wish that I'd get paid from internet providers! LOL But no, free websites like this only pay their bills through the use of selling ads.

What actually happens is that I'm paying for servers, software, and bandwidth lines, and every page that a person looks at costs me a little bit of money. I recoup that money by selling ads, and hope to have enough left over to pay myself something, too. When people use ad blockers, though, I'm still paying for them to see the site, but I'm not recouping any of it back. Which is why I compare it to shoplifting.

Turn off your ad blocker and it'll magically go away

In all seriousness, about 50% of our revenue is lost to people using ad blockers. To you it's a minor inconvenience, but to me it's the difference between paying the bills or putting it on a credit card. I know so many website owners that have gone out of business, in large part due to ad blockers!

Really, ad blockers are no different from shoplifting, and all they're really doing is destroying the free internet.
