What size is the sword and are there any markings on the blade close to the handle?

Seriously, God help you! If it is cheap imitation, grab your twenty bucks, but think of your grandchildren if it means anything.

Of course, selling war swords comes with a curse. You are supposed to keep it in the family. If you don't, then well, God help you!

German or Japanese? Could be worth 20 bucks if typical, Could be some weird magic sword from a Samari family that has been looking for it for all these years. Take a picture of it and post it on those WWII war sword websites. There are a gazziliion websites that could give you an idea,

My father in law was stationed in the South Pacific during the war.

Oh - and the sword does have stains on the blade which I suppose
could be rust but look more like blood to me.

No - I don't know the background of the sword, but my husband always said that

his father obtained the sword in combat so I don't think it came from a gift shop.
I will start a search for a military collector because that does may sense to see
one of them instead of a gun/knife collector.
Thanks all for the suggestions.

So you don't know if it's German, Japanese, or picked up at the airport gift shop.

You need a military collector. I wouldn't trust one of the people at the gun shows. Most of them with stuff like that are not very high end. If it's really something, I doubt they would know it.

Thanks, 168. I'm not planning to sell the sword - would just like to know what it's worth.

It is about 12 inches long and is curved and has a case made of some type metal with
what are obviously hand carvings on it. The carvings are a very intricate design.
It belonged to my late husband's father and all he knew about it was that his father
brought it back when he came home after World War 2.
Of course, if it turned out to be very valuable, I may consider selling after getting
at least two or three appraisals.

What kind of sword is it?

Be careful Sunny and get more than one opinion especially if its from Japan. Some really good ones came back with the GIs. Late in the war Japanese families were asked to donate swords to the war effort so there are some really crude military issued ones out there and a few really old very valuable ones to

I don't know if it is worth anything.

That's why I would like to show it to an appraiser and find out.
I am just guessing that the fact that it is 75 years old may add some value to it.
Thank you bobster. I will check out the gun & knife shows.

Gun shows have people that will buy it. But none are certified appraisers. Why do you even think it's worth anything?

Gun shows (gun and knife shows) usually have people who could appraise.

I have an antique sword from World War 2 that I would like to have appraised.

Does anyone know someone who could do this? Thanks in advance.
