MAY 21 Ever since the release of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report that found there was no evidence of collusion between President Donald Trump and the Russian government during the 2016 presidential campaign, Democrats have insisted they would get to the truth when they had a chance to talk with the special counsel directly. Barring a substantial change in the current circumstances, it’s looking very unlikely that will happen. Several news outlets, including The Washington Post, Bloomberg, and CNN, are reporting the special counsel has flatly refused to testify publicly before the House Judiciary Committee. According to those reports, Mueller has told Democrat staffers he doesn’t want to be dragged into their political fight. In lieu of public testimony, he has offered to make a public statement before entering “executive session”�"the congressional term for meeting behind closed doors and away from the bright lights of the left-wing mainstream media. The Justice Department has made it clear it doesn’t have any problem with Mueller testifying, nor does the executive privilege claimed over the Mueller Report prevent him from doing so. Likewise, Attorney General Bill Barr has given his blessing to the special counsel testifying, as well. So, while Democrats may be keen to pin the blame for the special counsel’s failure to testify on the president and those around him, ultimately Mueller has only himself to blame. And his lack of willingness to testify breeds suspicion�"begging the question: What’s he got to hide?
