Depending on how much data you want to transfer, this could be VERY easy for you!

The easiest option is to sign up for some sort of free cloud storage. Google Drive offers 15G of free storage, pCloud offers 15G, OneDrive offers 5G, Mega.co.nz offers 50G (but it's slow), and there are probably others. But that's already 85G, and that's usually a lot more than you would need.

PM me with your email address and I can send you a referral code for pCloud, then you'll get an additional 1G of storage for free.

Once you've signed up, use the old computer to log in to Google Drive, pCloud, etc and download their programs. Once it's installed, you simply take the files that you want to salvage and drag them to the folder that the program gives you.

Assuming that you start with Google, just upload as much as you can there. Then when you've reached their limit, open up pCloud and do it again with them. Then when it's full, move on to OneDrive. Then when it's full, move on to Mega.

You'll be uploading them to their website, so give it time! Uploading 85G of data could take several days, even weeks if you have slow internet.

If you're trying to save photos, you can also install Google Photos and let it back up all of the pictures on each of your computers or devices. This one offers unlimited storage, and it's more automated. You can also install it on your phone, tablets, whatever, and always keep your photos in one place. And you can share folders with specific people, so your spouse could upload their photos to one of your albums if you want. As an added bonus, if you get a new phone or computer than you don't have to transfer anything, just log in to Google and all of your photos are already there

Once it's all uploaded, you'll see all of your files safely uploaded to their website. Then just log in with the new computer, and you can start downloading them if you want. OR you can just leave them on the websites and access them whenever you need them.

When it's all done, triple check that you can access the files from your new computer! If you can, then you can format your old computers, then throw them out or sell them.
