🎵 Bad boys bad boys......whatcha gonna do when they come for you?🎵

Niki Hamby has more character, integrity, and intelligence in his little finger than all those incompetent, corrupt, and ignorant commissioners and the Mayor plus Larry South combined. He stood up for the VOLUNTEERS of the Fire Department and worked tirelessly to push the Town mgmt to HONOR THEIR PROMISE to the people of the Town and the members of the fire department to build them a new fire station to no avail.
He, as well as others, dedicated his life to help people......37 years to be exact. Under his tenure as our chief the department improved by leaps and bounds. Requiring endless training, making sure we had the best equipment, and bringing us into the tech world! He cared about us and we respected him.
I can assure you there has been no such leadership in our department since that day in April 2014.
This drama that has unfolded is about so much more than a man putting his hands around his wife's neck and choking her. How can you ever trust a man like that to walk into a burning structure with you? I hope this will open the blind eyes of the people that think domestic violence is okay! Anywhere nor anytime.
So tonight when you lay your head down on your pillow and you hear sirens in the middle of the night, remember all those people who don't sleep so we can be safe and secure. Whisper a prayer to the One up above. After all, He's the one who's in charge of all this anyway.

Niki Hamby was asked to do something and he refused, don't know what he was asked to do but he deemed it unethical. Town manager, Larry South, told him he could either do it or be fired. Niki still refused so he was given a choice to retire or be fired. He retired. The article in the journal patriot said he retired which was true but it didn't state the reason why he retired so early. Niki is a top notch guy and probably the best fire chief in the county. He had lots of training especially since he also works as a fire marshall for the county. Jimmy Martin didn't come close to the training that Niki had. He was put in because he could be a reporter to South of what was going on at the fire dept. Crooked politics was the reason all the changes took place.

Bighohn and Beeman, (stupid auto correct)
Actually fired for no good reason happens quite often when politicians get involved, they seem to far more about politics and not so much about public services, especially emergency services.

When you cross the town manager and and a couple of town council members you have a target on your back.

He opposed the town screwing over the FD over the income from Merlefest camping. Ask about that. Ask how Wilkesboro has handled the Sewerfest camping monies.

The journal Patriot said that he retired as chief and as a fireman of the department immediately. The town doesn't just fire people for fun. Usually someone has to have done something bad to be fired. Seems strange that it was never made into a big deal that he was fired for "no reason"

if you had to have good character to be in a civic position the county would be hard pressed to find enough people to fill the vacancies. cold.hard. truth.

Bighon and Herman,
If y'all are referring to Niki Hamby, he was fired by the town to make way for their yes man Jimmy Martin; Jimmy ain't half the man that Niki is nor half the man fire chief that Niki was. Niki was done very dirty by the town.

Does anyone know why the former chief was forced to retire? Just seems like that was swept under the rug and never any any news coverage or anything in the papers? I don't think people are forced to retire for petty things.

Are you people serious. Since when did you have to have good character to be a fireman?

Since we are discussing fire chiefs what about the last chief that was forced to resign? How come we never heard anything about that? Was he so special that he didn't get the same treatment for what he forced to retire for? And why won't the town officials say anything about it? Maybe it was because he was white?

Special Treatment

I don't say much on here because, most of it is just looking for drama. To me if you are arrested for anything and you are a public figure then you should resign or be terminated. North Wilkesboro is a really nice place to live and it is a shame to have things like this to happen. Even if he is innocent there was violence commented or he would of never been arrested. And with that being said, with all the news reports the damage is already done.

Misinformation

What I found funny was the different stories told by the same person.

From the interview with WXII.

When talking about the chief being placed on leave "We don’t want it to reflect bad on the town or the department, and Jimmy and I both felt like it was the thing to do," South said.

Seems though that when speaking with the Journal Patriot who finally decided to put something online the only reason the decision was made was because town officals didn't like the public questioning why they were trying to keep something quiet that is public knowledge.

"Martin was placed on leave about noon June 23 'because folks kept egging it on and it was obviously becoming a distraction for the department and for the town.'"

Wonder why the audience of WXII didn't get to hear a back handed complaint that people were "egging it on" but instead it "felt like it was the thing to do". Wonder if it was because WXII viewers would hear that and say "wow that is the only reason the town decided to do something and act because people were raising concerns about it?"

It is funny though that pointing out the lack of inaction by the town to address a charge against a public offical is "egging it on". Sounds more like people calling BS when they see town officals trying to cover something up and the town officals don't like it.

Hmmmm. Wonder if the NW water treatment plant is still using Martin's operators license to operate. Last account he was the only one with the type of license required to operate. He has been retired from that job several years.

The former mayor you were referring to was in fact a mayor and not a fire chief. Nothing he does would ever surprise me. When that happened, he had been out of office for several years and even had moved to Wilkesboro.

Don't forget your upstanding, once and former fireman, mayor, who moved to the next town who recently got out of a drug scandal. Don't kid yourself that those scandalous activities weren't going on while he was serving North Wilkesboro.

You better not open that closet. There are plenty of skeletons that could appear. I wouldn't go too far if I were you...
