I went to Elkin on Saturday
There was a clear line where the county line ended, our salt was gone and they had just put theirs down
And now their main roads are clear where ours have an inch of ice on them

If foxnit only complained about things it knows about, there would be no more threads posted by it.

Old school and Fox I am glad yall are so up to date on the how and when to apply brine. However in this case you are absolutely lost. The 23% solution of salt and water (brine) can be applied 72 hrs before a snow event as long as rain is not in the mix. Local DOT here in Wilkes started applying the brine in Wilkes on Thursday morning. The snow was forecasted for late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, which is within the 72 hr time frame. The last I checked the middle of the week is Wednesday AKA HUMP DAY so that's two things you are wrong on. So in the future I would suggest you complain about things you know about and leave the things that require any knowledge to the professionals. In regards to the roads being packed with snow and ice you are correct (atta boy) However its not the DOT's fault. The salt they apply only works to 28* any colder temps like we have had this week makes the salt inactive, once the snow bonds to the asphalt and temps drop as low as we have had this week the only thing that will help remove it is the good ole sunshine and warmer temps. So as the temps warm up today the salt applied and the trucks running you should see the roads improve greatly.

I am sure the did and we appreciate it. It is the pencil pushers that is not in touch with reality. Someone said 48 hours. that would have been Friday, not Wednesday

I wondered about that myself. When I was out and about in town this morning, I commented that I've never seen the roads this bad the day after.

48 hours is 2 days not 5. I know what you mean Old School

Usually, it works best if applied 48 hours before the weather comes. If you wait until it snows it is not as effective.

Who was the **** that spread the salt treatment on the roads here last week about the middle of the week. Common sense would tell you if you are not expecting snow until Saturday night that all of it will be gone before it snows. If it rains, it is gone, if it stays dry, it is gone. either way it was a waste of taxpayers money. In 4 or 5 days just the traffic alone would carry most of it off. I hope it was not a local DOT person, surely it was that goofy Cooper that ordered it. The roads are in the worst shape I can remember in my life. Not scraped, not salted, just packed snow and ice. Just wait until that 18 degree temperature hits it tonight. I'm telling you now you better not be on the road
