“The democrats can win the election by allowing the non-citizens to vote. THEN allowing the 16 year to vote, as Pelosike said while it was in their mind. She don't realize that U S History is not taught in schools If what the demcrats get their way then the RURAL communities are left out of the election. So if this passes then the rural does not need to vote. It is up to California, Ohio etc to elect the POTUIS”

It looks like English, but...I’m pretty sure it’s a brand new language.

The electoral college preserves the union of states. Without it, the big cities would decide the Presidential election and the less populated state would have no reason to belong to the union. The founders understood this. The electoral college is the bedrock of the Republic.

The only advantage of electing a President by popular vote and doing away with the electoral college would be the savings to the candidates who would only need to campaign in California, Illinois, and New York.

I think the electoral college should be expanded to the state wide elections. Maybe then the candidates would pay more attention to the smaller communities like Wilkesboro.

You should be asking could republicans win WITHOUT the electoral college. The won in 2000 and 2016 and lost the popular vote both times.
That's how we got 2 of the worst presidents in history, George W Bush and Donald J Trump.

It''s happened 5 times total, so less than 9% of all elections had this outcome, dear God Apocalypse surely be upon us.

The 2016 election was the most recent when the candidate who received the greatest number of electoral votes, and thus won the presidency, didn't win the popular vote. But this scenario has played out in our nation’s history before.

In 1824, John Quincy Adams was elected president despite not winning either the popular vote or the electoral vote. Andrew Jackson was the winner in both categories. Jackson received 38,000 more popular votes than Adams, and beat him in the electoral vote 99 to 84. Despite his victories, Jackson didn’t reach the majority 131 votes needed in the Electoral College to be declared president. In fact, neither candidate did. The decision went to the House of Representatives, which voted Adams into the White House.

In 1876, Rutherford B. Hayes won the election (by a margin of one electoral vote), but he lost the popular vote by more than 250,000 ballots to Samuel J. Tilden.

In 1888, Benjamin Harrison received 233 electoral votes to Grover Cleveland’s 168, winning the presidency. But Harrison lost the popular vote by more than 90,000 votes.

In 2000, George W. Bush was declared the winner of the general election and became the 43rd president, but he didn’t win the popular vote either. Al Gore holds that distinction, garnering about 540,000 more votes than Bush. However, Bush won the electoral vote, 271 to 266.

In 2016, Donald Trump won the electoral vote by 304 to 227 over Hillary Clinton, but Trump lost the popular vote. Clinton received nearly 2.9 million more votes than Trump, according to an analysis by the Associated Press of the certified results in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

I believe Abraham Lincoln lost the popular vote if I’m not mistaken.

See above.

Obama did far worse, but you didn't see us burning down cities, wearing **** hats, and acting like children. No, we complained but, we pressed on looking for the day we would be out from beneath his horrible legacy.

“You do realize at the time most women didn't want to vote don't you.”
Good Lord. You probably would still rather have only white men vote, huh?

That’s the mentality of the Drumpf Conservative.

You need to do a little studying. If women registered to vote that put them in the pool to get drafted. They did not want that.

You are a little late to the gate Smally. You have already established where you stand and it certainly is not American. Good try but no cigar

I’m sure the same types of arguments were used by people who wanted to keep women from voting.

You do realize at the time most women didn't want to vote don't you.
