Housing and wages are cheap here. Everything else is about the same all over.

Cost of living is lower? I can't agree with that.

There is always room at the top. If you have a skill or profession that is in demand you can get a job if you excel in your area of expertise, have a good resume and references. It won't pay as well as in other areas but the cost of living here is lower and it's a great place to live.

Wilkes is a place for retirement, not to build a career.

I removed several posts that were off topic and/or trolling.

Who in their right mind would want to work for Tyson's? Maybe for 25 dollars an hour but not for what they pay. People work there because they have to. It is not a choice.

There are tons of jobs here....Tyson......Lowes.....ect.....problem here is these jobs cannot be filled because these fine folks cannot pass a drug test......

The only reason to move to Wilkes to get a job is that you are extremely skilled and willing to work cheap. There are jobs here that pay well but there are not that many and someone already has them. 9 times out of 10 they got those jobs because of family connection.

However, I will admit you need to know who to bribe to get that contract in the first place.

That is about a five day job at most.

Lowes pays 35 thousand dollar for labor to set up their kitchen cabinet display .

Shoot. now just about everybody's got me nervous......

I'd like to live in Wilkes but I have a funny feeling i"m gonna have to drive to Hickory to make a decent wage. I don't need a ton of $ now, just want to pay my bills and have a little to play with.

We'll see. Thanks

Seriously, go to indeed.com and search North Wilkesboro. Plenty of opportunity out there.

Good luck Craig. Wilkes like surrounding areas have few jobs being offered.

My younger brother had that job and travel all over even out to CA working in Lowes stores and he never made that kind of money. I will admit however that is was 20 years ago.

You can make a $1,000 a week doing store setups for Lowes and Wal Mart. However, you have to travel.

OP what do you do for a living?

Not many jobs in Wilkes that pay over 30'000 a year and as soon as you cross the county line you can do the same job in the next county and make 10'000 more a year

How about a list of these wonderful jobs. Does the McDonald's on 18 have a opening for an $60K a year IT person or persons? Does Wal Mart have a $60K position in construction?
