Meet the Artists Reception

Public Event

Sunday, Mar. 4, 2012

The Hiddenite Center will honor participants in their Annual Local Artists Competition and Exhibit with a Meet the Artists Awards Ceremony & Reception on Sunday, March 4, 2012. The public is invited to join the Hiddenite Center in celebrating these talented artists and their extraordinary work, which will be on display at the Lucas Mansion Gallery for the entire month of March 2012. The reception will be held at the Historic James Paul Lucas Mansion from 3:00pm until 4:30pm. The awards ceremony will begin at 3:30 pm. Guests will enjoy light refreshments and the opportunity to discuss the exhibit with the artists.

Each year for the last 30 years, the Hiddenite Center’s Annual Local Artist Competition has highlighted the quality and quantity of talented and creative local artists in our area. This incredibly diverse competition and exhibit features the work of artists ranging from elementary school age students to senior adult categories.

“The Hiddenite Center is pleased to provide an opportunity for local artists to share their talent with the public and be rewarded for their efforts,” said Allison Houchins, Gallery Curator and Director of Education. “ It is wonderful to see so many different age groups, artistic mediums, and unique points of view, on display in one exhibit.”

During the reception, a winner and honorable mention recipients will be named in each age division of the competition. The competition portion of the exhibit features the work of Alexander County residents only but the exhibit itself will include work from artists in surrounding communities.

“We invite everyone to join us for this exciting reception as we honor each of the artists whose work is on display,” said Houchins. “This event is truly a celebration of the vital role that art has to play in each stage of our lives and in our community.”

Awards for the Hiddenite Center’s Annual Local Artists Competition and Exhibit are made possible through the Grassroots Fund of the North Carolina Arts Council, local financial institutions, and the Hiddenite Center.
