Well, well, well. Yes, what a deep subject. But I can truthfully respond/post to this thread. Our tax check was stolen by a family member several years ago. If you suspect it has been stolen, you can call the IRS explain to them you haven't received your check and then ask if they will check your signature(s) endorsement(s) on the back.They can tell if handwriting is the same as previous years checks you have endorsed. As with us, the signatures were not the same. Therefore we were sent (3) affidavits along with cancelled check copy showing signatures. We knew who had signed the check. We went to an atty who advised us to sign the affidavits and return the affidavits immediately or we would be facing legal action. We lied on the affidavits to keep these people out of prison. Was it worth it? No, because we will have to answer for that lie one day! We lied because of the years of imprisonment and the money fine they would face.

Why didn't you just have it direct deposited?
I don't understand why people insist on a check.

I have to have a POB because of my line of work. Lots of private information is mailed to me.

PO Boxes are much more secure, obviously, but so much more hassle. I used to only get my mail at a PO Box; I didn't even have a mailbox at my home, but after a few years of driving back and forth to the Post Office a few times a week, I finally broke and got myself a mailbox and canceled my PO Box. I still think about getting another PO Box though, just for security.

You'll probably get more help from the postal service if it was stolen. I called the IRS the otherday to ask a question and never got to talk to a human. You'll get the glorious run around if you call that bunch. I waited 15+ minutes and finally hung up.

Sad part is, the IRS will have you wait 6 to 8 weeks additional while they investigate then, it will be an addition 8+ weeks before you receive a another attempt at a check.
So you are looking at six months plus before you will see a replacement check.
