We are approaching an age where cell phones cause more accidents than drunk drivers

The local MADD Mothers have found another hobby, cruising the wine trails on the weekends.

Instead of a few drunks, we now have many, many smarties and texters. If you sit most anywhere along 421 within a mile or two, you can hear the wwwaaawwwhhh, wwwaaawwwhhh, as they hit the noise strips.

To be honest, cellphoners frighten me more than drunkies do, for some reason.

Drunks pay more attention.

I thought there were already laws against texting while driving, but they aren't enforced like they should be.

As if yakking on a cell phone wasn't bad enough, now there's texting!

There is a law against texting while driving and any time I pass someone going slower than the speed limit on the interstate, I glance over and if they are obviously texting, as soon as it's safe, I call *HP and report them giving the make and color of car.

Nobody's life is worth that message displayed on your cellphone screen

One truly has to wonder why someone who is obviously under the influence of drugs or alcohol is somehow more culpable than a person who is stone cold sober and uncaring enough that their phone matters more than the safety of other drivers.

The reason it hasn't had anything done against it yet is that all the members of "Mothers Against Drunk Driving" have a freaking cellular phone plastered to their ears trying to get you to sign another of their petitions.

It is going to take a grass roots effort to get going. Eventually, and some of you will live to see it, the "smart" cities in this country are not going to allow ANY human drivers. Cars will all be internet driven inside the city limits and for several miles around.

Then you can gab all you want to gab as your car truly goes on auto pilot...

In the meantime, please take this advice...

HANG UP AND DRIVE

or perhaps this charming bumper sticker I saw which read,

MAYBE YOU COULD DRIVE BETTER IF YOU HAD THAT PHONE SHOVED UP YOUR BUTT!!!

We are entering an age where cell phones have become like that itch you cannot reach, annoying.

Keep it on vibrate and return calls when I need to. Not much texting. Email much like snail mail can wait till I get home. If it is family then it gets top priority.

todayI had two people who nearly ran into me... both using their Cell Phones....when I honked the horn...they looked up in a quick movement...then gave me a dirty look... I said to myself well at least they are still around to give me that look...and both the individuals were not teens...the woman looked to be about late twenty's and the man in his forty's.. now come on people there is no call worth causing an accident that will destroy another car or truck or worse disable a person .... I have a cell phone and when it rings I will look for a spot to pull over and see if its really important for me to call back...most calls are from friends who know if I do not answer they leave a message......so its up to us to be aware of those drivers who use their cell while driving...

Texting while driving is more dangerous than drinking and driving......need stricter laws and need them enforced.

You are probably right. I was crossing the street with my children in front of a Target and a lady came at us as she was constantly looking down. She never saw us and had I not hurried everyone up she would have hit us.

Their social lives are more important then the ones on the road.
I think anyone who texts and drives deserves to go crippled, I just feel sad for the folks who suffer their stupidity.
