Yeah put them in a foster home where they're likely to be molested. Just because their parents were shoplifting, which isn't thaaaat bad of a crime. Come on, it's not like they're doing drugs in front of them...or sexually abusing them.

I reckon they might steal more, ifn they didn't get their public assistance.

You might be a scum bag if you have been barred from Wal Mart. I mean lets face it folks that's a special person to accomplish that.

You're welcome. I was afraid that some wouldn't post if I didn't post that bit of information.

Just a random thought I had pop in my head from this thread....
I do wonder why it is that Walmart seems to be the poor people's choice for their scams, thefts, counterfeiting and check frauds, regarless of skin color.
It's as if Walmart has found a niche in America for the criminally challenged.

Carry on.

Why is everyone always talking about people who gets foodstamps or other assistance? What does that have to do with anything? I get no assistance but you must know of someone who done this to ask such an odd question. I mean think about it..if someone got caught shoplifting should they ever be able to get a job? If someone got caught shoplifting should they be able to have a drivers license? Shoplifting is wrong but I just done see what it has to do with each other.

the problem with many punitive measures like that Dad is the children suffer as much or more than the parents

and we all know that it's just not feasible to remove the kids in these situations

I think everybody who gets food stamps and government help should be drug tested frequently without warning. Should any trac of drugs be found, all funding should be denied. I donīt think it is right that I who pay all my taxes (which in part goes to those people) is drug tested and when found guilty, I lose my tax paying job

I don't know think if a child is with someone when the commission a crime that the kid is automatically removed. I know someone who got 2 DWI's, the second while driving on a limited driving privilege from the first DWI and the infant was in the car both times and DSS was never called. They just called their parent to come get them and the baby. I thought it was wrong but it's up to the individual officer apparently.

People are quick to say no they should not or yes they can. If the person gets public welfare and it does not meet the needs of the family and they find no other help then they resort to deperate measures.

I would like to hear the whole story.

I have always thought there are several diffrent kinds of theft.
1. Those who have reached the end of their rope to provide food and such and resort to such measures to provide for the family.

2. Then you have the drug addicts who steal to get high which helps no one and some will gut you to get away.

3. Those who steal material possessions to have because they want them and cannot afford them.

4. Those who steal for the thrill of it.

5. Those who are mental cases.

Unless the whole story is known as was pointed out judgment cannot be made. Thank you Irish and Coal. Exactly what I was trying to get to.

If the child is with them I believe law mandates the child is immediately taken away.

There is no rest of the story from this side. I was just curious as to what people thought.

Forever Cynic - do you know anybody who has ever lived in a foster home? If so ask them about their experience. From what I have heard it can be nice or it can really be unpleasant. Toss up.

I am still curious to see the responses.

Maybe the person needed to get by stealing. Yes its wrong and against the law, but without knowing the whole story we can't judge.

What if they have that child with them when they commit the crime?
