Jesus changed water into wine. Lots daughters got him drunk and screwed him. Noah's son mocked him for being drunk.

Consuming alcohol to excess is, for believers, almost certainly a sin. So is eating to excess, or doing anything else...to excess.
I enjoy wine, or an occasional distilled spirit. ONE DRINK. I've never been drunk. Never plan to. I have no desire to lose control.
If consuming alcohol is a sin, then why would God create, or even allow naturally occuring fermentation?

All things in moderation.
"But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows, And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented. For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children." (Matthew 11:16-19)
As you can see from the above, Jesus drank wine, the kind with spirits.
I know it offends a lot of people to think Christ partook of spirited wine.
However, when the Lord Himself says He drank wine and was wrongfully accused of being a drunk... well you just figure that one out for yourself.
Of course this opens the argument that Christ meant he was drinking grape juice, so that is why he couldn't be a "winebibber".
Christ drank spirited wine, and sinned not. He came as an example, and showed His followers it is possible to live in a manner similar to His.
If you think it's a sin, don't drink it.
If you are an alcoholic, don't drink spirits at all.
If you drink for solace, then find something else to console you, such as a good friend, or counseling.

Amen, Pix. I might add that if you drink for ANY reason at 10am, you might want to find a 12 step program!

I agree with Kilby, as usual. Who knewit makes an excellent point. PIxel, you preached my sermon! :D And Bushkisser, you made a wonderful point as well. So glad that there are some people on here (RG, I include you in this as well) who have the sense to read the Bible and understand it for themselves, rather than believe the myth that has been handed down for years that Jesus drank grape juice, not wine, and even that there is such a thing as wine without alcohol in it. All myths to support their legalistic rule that you cannot EVER drink wine or any other alcohol. Legalism = RELIGION! Jesus had some very unflattering words for the Pharisees, who were VERY legalistic and religious, but were rotten inside. He called them poisonous snakes, whitewashed tombs, hypocrites, and said that the tied up burdens too heavy to carry with their legalism, and placed them onto the backs of the congregation of the synagogue. Do you get that they didn't make the top of His 'favorites' list? They would snip off portions of mint and anise leaves to tithe (LEGALISTIC) had someone to blow a trumpet to announce their presence in the markets, loved to be called Rabbi, had someone blow a trumpet to announce their arrival wherever they went, made long, loud prayers to sound pious, and yet, they were absolutely evil, and they were the ones who plotted to have Jesus killed. Religion/legalism will ALWAYS hate and detest the freedom we have in Christ. "Those whom the Son has set free are free indeed."

And BTW, those same religious people who believe that it is a sin to touch alcohol ALSO have no problem whatsoever with having regular pot luck meals and eating until they ware ready to explode! GLUTTONY is the socially accepted SIN among them!
