This message board is moderated to the best of our ability, but with several thousand posts each day, it
can be difficult for us to review every post. Following a few simple rules can make the GoWilkes
experience more enjoyable for everyone.
-
Names.
Names and other identifying information are generally prohibited, with a few exceptions. The forum is
moderated by a real person, and while some names are blocked by default, others will usually be removed
as quickly as possible.
The exceptions are elected officials or public figures, and business names. For instance, an accountant may
operate a business of John Doe, CPA, and in that case discussing the name would be allowed as long as the
discussion pertains to the business.
You may also give the name of someone that is publicly known or that has been in the news, but you can
generally only discuss the topic for which this person is publicly known. For instance, you can discuss the
abilities of a local athlete, but can't discuss their relationships or personal attributes.
-
Whistle Blowers.
If you have witnessed an illegal activity, you can post the details only if you can prove your accusation,
AND if you are able to provide your real, verifiable name to the moderators. If you cannot
prove your accusation, then it is considered libel.
-
Personal attacks.
You may not post derogatory comments about a specific person. You can say "One of the
servers at so-and-so restaurant was very rude", but you cannot say "The tall, 21 year old waitress
with brown hair at so-and-so restaurant was very rude".
-
Trolling.
The term ''troll'' is often used to refer to someone that makes a series of posts for no reason but to start an
argument. It is often difficult to determine whether a post is a troll, but we generally will remove a post if
that's what it appears to be.
-
Vulgarity.
This site is frequented by people of all ages, so we try to keep everything at a PG-13 level. Because of this,
certain topics of an adult nature may be removed.
-
Classified ads.
Classified ads are not allowed on the forum, simply because if we allowed them then it would quickly be
overran with ads! Please post your classified ads in the correct category of the "Classifieds" section.
If you see something posted that you believe is in violation of these terms, please do not assume that the moderators
have seen it. We ask that you report any suspected violations, so that a moderator can review it as quickly as possible.
Naturally, these terms are subject to change at any time without notice. For more information, read our Frequently
Asked Questions, here.
