The problem is too many people now are getting something for free. The other people who are paying are paying way too much. I remember when I paid 5 bucks a week for blue cross and blue shield and stuff like out patient surgery was free. The insurance companies are spending billions(WITH A B, PEOPLE) to stop this bill. Now if they have that much money to throw away with lobbying and paying people to come to rallies, then how much are they actually spending on actual healthcare. The insurance companies made this mess. They are screwing us over, and add in the fact we are paying taxes anyway to pay for people to go to the Emergency room at 10 times as much if they would go to a regular doctor, we have to do something. I would much rather have a system where they have a doctor to go to, and save us some tax money. Some of this bill I do not like, but we have to do something. Health insurance for small business is killing small business. Before you start yelling about the bill, GO READ IT YOURSELF, on an unbias site. (something ending in .gov, which means it is just the bill and no comments added from either side) http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-b...

the bil clearly states that people with higher income will be taxed. the private insurance buyers will have an added tax. there will be a tax on medical equipment. the healcare fraud still leaves 25 million people uninsured. if u lose your private insurance you cannot buy new policies. u must go on the governments fraud insurance plan. please tell me im rediculous and i dont know what im talking about while the link to the bill is on this very thread which u havent bothered clicking.

Another possibility is that targeted food producers will be sued, and an out-of court settlement similar to the tobacco settlement of 1998 will be struck.
Billions will be paid to government. And sycophants like RG will scream "see, that's NOT A TAX!!!".
And the billions will be diverted to fund general government expansion, like with the tobacco settlement.
But your twinkie will still cost $4. Go figure. Organized crime in the new millenium.

"...not to mention all the new taxes that will arise from this healthcare fraud. "
This topic deserves discussion. They will use the tobacco template to raise revenues; that is, certain foods will be classed as "harmful", and punitive taxes will be legislated. Fried food, soda, pastries...the list is only limited by their greed for more healthcare dollars, and self-righteous preaching.
Fact: much disease is lifestyle related. Just wait until a twinkie costs $4 like a pack of cigarettes does now. All the lard-****e$ who are screaming for "free" health care as a "human right", will be screaming bloody murder when their lack of self discipline starts to cost them more money.
"Free" healthcare, and bread-and-water rations...a socialist utopia, just like Cuba!

I don't care who supports the government mandated insurance program, forcing insurance is not within the governments Constitutional powers and they need to go back to trying to do their job. Maybe if our government would stay within their Constitutional authority, they would get it right. They're way outside their authority and screwing up.

PELOSI: Buy a $15,000 Policy or Go to Jail
JCT Confirms Failure to Comply with Democrats’ Mandate Can Lead to 5 Years in Jail
Friday, November 06, 2009
Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.
In response to the JCT letter, Camp said: “This is the ultimate example of the Democrats’ command-and-control style of governing – buy what we tell you or go to jail. It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately.”
Key excerpts from the JCT letter appear below:
“H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax.” [page 1]
- - - - - - - - - -
“If the government determines that the taxpayer’s unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply…” [page 2]
- - - - - - - - - -
“Criminal penalties
Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:
• Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.
• Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.” [page 3]
When confronted with this same issue during its consideration of a similar individual mandate tax, the Senate Finance Committee worked on a bipartisan basis to include language in its bill that shielded Americans from civil and criminal penalties. The Pelosi bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail.
“The Senate Finance Committee had the good sense to eliminate the extreme penalty of incarceration. Speaker Pelosi’s decision to leave in the jail time provision is a threat to every family who cannot afford the $15,000 premium her plan creates. Fortunately, Republicans have an alternative that will lower health insurance costs without raising taxes or cutting Medicare,” said Camp.
According to the Congressional Budget Office the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speaker’s bill would cost $15,000 in 2016.

Most individuals would prefer to die at home and hospitals are not places to accept terminally ill just so they can die there.
Did you ever think about contacting Hospice. When my Dad was dying Hospice came into the home and help him. they didn't charge us anything.

AARP will make money on this, is it any wonder they support it. They are also very liberal in what they support historically.

"People who think our health care system is great must not have been sick, or had a family member in the hospital lately. Well my family has VERY recent experience in this area...tragic experience...doctors insisting that my dying mom "MUST LEAVE THE HOSPITAL NOW!" She died AT HOME, in AGONY, on Monday, after they forced her out of the hospital on Thursday. Remember when dying patient could do so under a doctor's care? And being a retired teacher, she had GREAT insurance. WHAT A MESS! "
Sorry for your loss. Death of a loved one is very hard. One point I would like to make on your mothers insurance though is that hers being a retired teacher is a government run health plan.
The state of NC is a self-funded plan , and though administered through BCBS, claims and benfits are paid by the state which is broke. If over 65, medicare would be her primary insurance, another government plan. Our system is not great and needs a lot of work, but I do not believe our government is the answer.

Well I have some experience with it too. I went to the hospital, got care, and paid for it myself. I have a mother in law in there now. She is being treated, will be there for a couple of weeks and likely pay for it herself. It use to be the American way to pay your own way.

The Kool-Aid drinkers forget to look at the motive for doctors to want to see this Bill passed.
Those Doctors that support the Bill are doing it for finiancial gain. Currently, they, like Lawyers, must do so much Pro Bono work per year. However, if a person has insurance, 'free' medical care will become history. Doctors are only guaranteeing themselves pay for all services rendered.
