"Read Acts and the Epistles. The church (people) met in homes, and in the courtyard of the Synagogues. They came together and ministered to each other, and exhorted and comforted each other. There were elders who were recognized in each city's church, but everyone was equal and everyone had a voice. The misogynists among us will probably choke on this one, but in 2 John, the Apostle John is writing to a WOMAN!"
Thank you God, and thank you calla_lily!!!!

Also, to condemn love, joy and peace, the first three of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, the evidence that He dwells inside of you, is VERY troubling. I understand that there are a lot of those who would, in an effort to coax people into salvation, would tell people that your troubles will all be over when you give your heart to Christ, and cause many people to become disillusioned This kind of thing comes from the emphasis placed upon numbers (saved, in church, personally evangelized, etc.) There is FAR too much importance placed upon the number of persons in the building at a particular time, mostly Sunday morning, and not enough importance placed upon true discipling the new born converts, and training the church to go out and live their lives in a manner that would be attractive to the world. (You know, being salt and light!) The whole thrust of the thing is all about getting more and more warm bodies into the building, and then we all sit down to passively listen to one person and watch the one-man-show, as the pastor does all the things we are ALL supposed to be doing, and we are weak and codependent upon this one man. It is a twisted dynamic, and church was never meant to be ANYTHING like it has devolved into today.
Read Acts and the Epistles. The church (people) met in homes, and in the courtyard of the Synagogues. They came together and ministered to each other, and exhorted and comforted each other. There were elders who were recognized in each city's church, but everyone was equal and everyone had a voice. 2 John Greetings
This letter is from John the Elder. It is written to the chosen lady and to her children, whom I love in the truth, as does everyone else who knows God’s truth—2 the truth that lives in us and will be in our hearts forever. 3 May grace, mercy, and peace, which come from God our Father and from Jesus Christ his Son, be with us who live in truth and love.
Live in the Truth
4 How happy I was to meet some of your children and find them living in the truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father. 5 And now I want to urge you, dear lady, that we should love one another. This is not a new commandment, but one we had from the beginning. 6 Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you heard from the beginning. 7 Many deceivers have gone out into the world. They do not believe that Jesus Christ came to earth in a real body. Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist. 8 Watch out, so that you do not lose the prize for which we have been working so hard. Be diligent so that you will receive your full reward. 9 For if you wander beyond the teaching of Christ, you will not have fellowship with God. But if you continue in the teaching of Christ, you will have fellowship with both the Father and the Son. 10 If someone comes to your meeting and does not teach the truth about Christ, don’t invite him into your house or encourage him in any way. 11 Anyone who encourages him becomes a partner in his evil work.
Conclusion
12 Well, I have much more to say to you, but I don’t want to say it in a letter. For I hope to visit you soon and to talk with you face to face. Then our joy will be complete. 13 Greetings from the children of your sister, chosen by God. Holy Bible, New Living Translation, (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.) 1996.
Instead of fighting among ourselves, we Christians should be all about loving one another, seeking unity, and instead of fighting each other about the color of the carpet or whether we like what the pastor is saying, or hundreds of other diversions sent by the enemy to draw our attention away from what REALLY matters, we should strive to be the TRUE Church that is one in Christ , the Head of His Body.

"But we are in Wilkes County and I can honestly say that I have sat in a Church locally and heard a preacher say “the KJV was the Bible Jesus used”. I’m not kidding….I just had to laugh because He Wasn’t Kidding. I did not return to that Church. "
I don't blame you! If someone that ignorant is allowed to be the leader of that church, they should close the doors and go home!
Here is something for everyone to think about:
The first settlers in our country came to escape religious persecution and the tyranny of the State Religion, The Church of England, which dictated what you could believe and how you must worship God. So those courageous folks packed up their clothes, their families, and their Geneva Bibles, NOT the KJV!! and came to a land where they could be free to worship as they saw fit. In fact, the Geneva Bible was a vastly superior Bible. It had references in the margins and study notes, which the original 1611 KJV did not include.
Also, think about this: In the foreward section of the KJV, the translators encouraged people to read OTHER VERSIONS of the Bible!! Do you STILL think it is they ONLY inspired version? Here is a great website to take a look at. Be sure to read the entire letter, watch the cartoon, and see the video. Then think about what you have been taught, and exactly WHERE it came from, really!

You KJV only people just kill me. I’m not knocking the KJV don’t get me wrong it’s a perfectly good translation. But you do realize that all of the texts that it contains existed before they were compiled into what you are calling the KJV. They came primarily from what’s commonly called the Tanakh (Torah + Nevi’im + Ketuvim) and the Septuagint. In many cases words moving Hebrew to Greek translations as well as Hebrew and Greek to English change the context and require additional words to fully capture an idea. No serious student of the Bible or anyone wanting to grow closer to God would limit themselves to the KJV only and cast aside all other documents. But we are in Wilkes County and I can honestly say that I have sat in a Church locally and heard a preacher say “the KJV was the Bible Jesus used”. I’m not kidding….I just had to laugh because He Wasn’t Kidding. I did not return to that Church.

not me... There are some other good translations out there. One I don't agree with is the "The New Revised Standard" it is an update of the Revised Standard and it's biggest difference is it sought to use "inclusive language"

Also lets talk the facts here. The Revised Version of 1881 was translated from manuscripts as well and was considered more accurate then the KJV because more manuscripts in greek had been found since the wrtting of the KJV
So to say that only the KJV was translated from the original languages is false.

You know. . .Jesus did not use the KJV. Neither did Paul. The KJV was written in 1611, just 400 years ago. It was written in the language of the time. We don't speak that language anymore (thee, thou, lovest, etc.) There are translations that make Scripture easier to understand. Yes, we need to be careful with which translation we use. That's why you read a few different translations. Look at the differences. Get yourself a concordance, look up the meaning of words that don't match up. Study.

Well Jessee, there are a "bunch of churches" in Charleston (SC)...supposedly more per-capita than any other city, and it's a wonderful place! It's hotter than the surface of the sun, but you can't have everything!

Old man once told me to never live in a county with a bunch of churches. It says people cannot get along with each other. Everyone trying to bed head of the table.

Ain't it strange how religion gets in the way of our relationship with the Almighty? Splitting hairs regarding the written word of man, and man saying that love and peace, hope and charity, faith and perserverance and not good enough. Signs and wonders....signs and wonders....
Some have been so bold as to speak for the Almighty...now that's pushing it. We have no idea of that entity, and any idea we have is wrong!
