The reason the hayride was closed is because the trail was getting so muddy that the boogers were slipping and falling. They decided to close it before one of then got hurt. I am sorry that their safety ruined your weekiend!

boomer man, I mean bummer
nothing worse than a boom'd out zombie ... did they advertise an "until" time or was it just left open to interpretation ?
I agree about the midnight thing but on the other hand you realize these are volunteers raising money and most of their target market (kids with parents) are going to be home before midnight

Were you one of several looking for something fun to do this weekend for Halloween? Do you live in Wilkes County? Was the rain all day and night Saturday reason enough to plan on doing something Friday instead? Then maybe you went to check out the Boomer Hayride. Hopefully you weren't as disappointed as myself and the group of people I went with were. At 10:50 we all arrived to see tractors pulling 'victims', parked cars scattered all about, and lights on in the ticket booth complete with concessions being sold. So naturally we walked up to buy our tickets with the hopes of being frightened that night and were sadly mistaken. They had stopped running. Another car pulls up and then another, both with groups of people, aiming to find the same thing we did. Some of us in the group had to work until 10:30 so it was unavoidable that we got there when we did but you would assume that one of the only few haunted events going on would be open on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30TH!!! The rain was just a light drizzle, nothing provoking a cancellation, and before 11 o clock on the night before Halloween, the Boomer Hayride closes. What better way to bring in Halloween at midnight then being scared on a haunted hayride or trail. It's expected you would want to stay open through midnight on a Friday before Halloween but not Boomer! This turned out to be the most disappointing Halloween ever for me because although I did get to do some fun things, I faced a lot of narrow mindedness along the way. My girlfriend and I dressed up as zombies on the day of Halloween (just simple makeup) and got nothing but disgusted and outright offended stares from bible-thumping, cart-pushing blue hairs in Food Lion. What is so evil about Halloween? Churches and religious affiliations give it more power than it should have by acknowledging it's evil foundation. That is what it used to be about, however the rest of us that celebrate it take the wind out of it's 'evil' sails so to speak. In other words, we inadvertently make a mockery of Halloween and therefore turn it into a fun, evil-free holiday. Honestly it is an excuse for kids to have fun and eat candy and an excuse for adults to treat themselves to something fun as well, whether that be a haunted house or a party at their home. But places like the "Maze of Flesh" seek to convert you, or 'save' you as they say, to Christianity and accuse you of being worthless sinners who deserve to die. However, through Jesus Christ you can find the worthiness to keep breathing. In turn, it doesn't matter what you do or how good/bad a person you may be so long as you have been saved. This is what a preacher told me afterwards anyway when I informed him how offended I was by the entire production (which involves a sermon at the end). The entire production was blasphemous and I do believe in God, therefore I was actually twice as offended. This mentality explains a lot in regards to why many churchgoers are so quick to judge everyone else and not concern themselves with doing the right thing because they've already got their ticket to heaven no matter what happens. Don't get me wrong; I know several people that attend church who try to do right by everyone around them and church does a lot of good for them. But I know several more who use it as an excuse to do as they feel and look down upon others (a direct violation of the Bible). So in summation, it's just Halloween folks and I hope next year all of the residents of this county will see it as just that. And as far as Boomer, they will never have mine or my friends business in Halloweens to follow.
