The body has been held up in Dover Delaware. The family is flying in today. The family is at the Army's mercy until they get back in the States for the body....

It is my understanding from the papers and news that he will arrive back in Elkin sometime today but I have no idea when or exactly where from. I will try my best to find out all I can and keep you updated. If we can't be there when his body arrives, I would love to be on the street when they hold his service.

TO THE GARNER FAMILY: YOU ARE IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS. MAY GOD KEEP YOU AND COMFORT YOU DURING THIS TIME.
I SALUTE MARK. AND ALL OF HIS COMPANY. AND SAY THANK YOU FOR THE JOB YOU WHERE DOING. AND THAT THE COMPANY WILL CONTINUE TO DO.
TO ALL GOWILKES POSTERS, JUST REMEMBER FREEDOM IS NOT FREE, IT COMES WITH A PRICE. AND MARK HAS PAID THAT PRICE,
AGAIN TO THE FAMILY: YOU ARE IN OUR PRAYERS.

As said by the character Rear Admiral George Tarrant in James Michener's The Bridges at Toko-Ri: "Where do we get such men?"

I wish I could attend. We did the same for a young Marine here in Springfield. It was very special to me, very touching and much appreciated by the family. Great idea.

I too would love to attend. It will be a very emotional event. My husband has 4 more months until he returns home from Iraq and my brother is deploying Sunday. It always hits close to home when I hear about us losing a soldier. Whoever is planning to arrange this, please keep us updated.

I will be there! It's the least I can do! I run an apartment community, so I will encourage each resident to attend also, if possible. The whole town should show up!

Yadkin let me know, I will be glad to be there also. I have a SIL in the army so I certainly think that would be an awesome tribute to such a wonderful young man. Sounds like God got a really good young man, just way too early.

I still think that all who can, should turn out on the street when Capt. Garner's body is brought through Elkin and be there, flags in hand to salute his heroic effort. This was done in Dobson a couple of years ago for a fallen soldier and it was a sight to behold. Very emotional and poignant. We need to show our support and thanks for his sacrifice. My nephew went to school with him and my oldest son just had his mother this year for his teacher. From what my nephew says, he was an outstanding human who died doing exactly what he believed was right. I applaud him for his duty and his family for raising such a wonderful young man and I hope God is comforting them.
