Okay. Not a bond fan. I get the "Oddjob" reference now. Here's one even better...

Wilkesdad, I look forward to seeing you out there this Monday (at Peace Haven's disc golf small group). We had 7 out there this week – two more and we set an attendance record. We had a couple guys tear apart my doubles course record... they shot 11 under par (only 46 strokes for 19 par 3 holes). If your church is interested in getting involved in disc golf, starting a small group or sponsoring a hole on the disc golf course here in Wilkes (coming soon), please let me know, have them call me or email in through the website: http://wilkesdiscgolf.com/C... I just finalized the course proposal for sponsors or anyone else interested in reading it. I have it posted here as a PDF: http://wilkesdiscgolf.com/W... Basically, a sponsorship is $500 per hole for an individual, church or business. The sponsorship can be split among two for $275 each. And a hole sponsorship can be split between three for $200 each. Each sponsor will be listed on "their" hole's sign and their sponsored hole's goal as well. All sponsors will be listed on the course overview sign which will be placed just as players arrive at the course and walk toward the first tee. MrClause, I know it's not a "speedway" that we're bringing to Wilkes, but we feel that this sport will get many folks outdoors that otherwise would rather sit inside to avoid (1) being in the sun too much, (2) spending too much money, (3) being apart from the family or (4) being scammed by those selling a "pie in the sky" dream. (1) Disc golf allows you to be in the woods (the planned location at W. Kerr Scott is almost entirely wooded (all but three of eighteen holes). (2) The cost of disc golf equipment is minimal - a set of 3 discs is around $30 (used discs for even less). You could even play with only one $8 disc. The fee to play at the proposed course will be $1. (Inside the day-use area at Fort Hamby.) That will simply "get you in" and will allow you the opportunity to play AS MANY HOLES AS YOU WISH... 9, 18, 36, 54... go crazy... play all day, even. (3) The entire family can play disc golf. If you can walk through the woods and toss a "frisbee", you can play. Younger? Play shorter distances. Long Arm? Play lower pars. (4) We're setting up the disc golf club as a non-profit organization, so no opportunity will be available for any cons to take money from the trusting citizens of Wilkes. If anyone approaches you wanting to sell you raffle tickets, sponsorships, etc, that relate to disc golf in Wilkes, please verify their involvement by giving me a call first (number on website). If you have questions about the course, location or just want to verify that this is "for real", please call Chad or Terry at the Army Corp of Engineers at W. Kerr Scott Lake – 336.921.3390. Hopefully they won't mind me posting this, since it will put some folks at ease that are not-too-trusting after the recent "plans to bring big things" to Wilkes county that flopped. I look forward to growing the popularity of disc golf in Wilkes; even if to only a small percentage of that of soccer, baseball, football and "ball golf" and look forward to having you each get involved. Individual membership in the club is only $10 per year. Includes 3 raffle tickets and a bag tag. In the raffle, we're giving away a $400+ value two player Wii system. Find out how a bag tag is used here: http://wilkesdiscgolf.com/B... All in all, it's all about affordable fun! Later, Lance : )

Enjoyed seeing and reading about the sport. Glad it is now in Wilkes. Our family can take up another sport and let bowling rest awhile. At least until colder months.

We also have a small group at Peace Haven (on Byrd Ridge Rd, North Wilkesboro) every Monday at 6:00pm. If interested in playing disc golf or learning what it's all about, come check out the small group. We go over basics and then play 19 holes every monday. Never played? We have loaner discs that you can borrow. http://peacehaven.org/DiscG...

I play 2 or 3 times per week in Ashe. It is a very challenging course! I started playing last year and I am totally addicted. I had my best round ever yesterday a +2 from the white tees. I am very excited to see that Wilkes County will be gettin a course! Since I work in Wilkes it would be awesome to go play after work during the cooler months when the days are shorter and there is not time to drive up the mtn. Thanks Lance for getting this going...I am sure you have put a ton of effort toward this. And if you want to hook up and play a round in Ashe just holla at me! Mark

Salisbury in less than 20 minutes? Wow... that's short! Never played there, but if it's that short, it might be worth playing to try for some aces! Hopefully heading to Ashe this weekend to watch the High Country Throwdown. Big Jerm will likely be there to try to repeat his win from last year. Never played Ashe, but hear it's a challenge.

Johnson street is nice. Yadkinville is still the best around for my money. My kids love Salisbury because it is short and open (not a lot of trees). I can play it by myself in less than 20 minutes.

The Wilkes County Disc Golf Club is currently working with the Army Corp of Engineers to create Wilkes County's first public disc golf course at the lake. It's in the planning stages now, but we're currently looking for members, sponsors and supporters; see our raffle ticket ad on this site (right side - random) or visit our website: http://WilkesDiscGolf.org
