I don't know what any of my girls' NC wise numbers are... Not sure why you would be asked for it?? You're right, the numbe ris logical...just a fancy term for the student id numbers we had (or that I had, at least).
Do you put your name on the language survey? I was thinking it was so that they would know whether to send home papers and info in spanish or english. But I do wonder if maybe somehow schools get more federal money for each student who speaks a language other than english at home...??

How do I know the NC wise #? I havent seen it, until it was asked for on the survey.
Having this number seems logical, I suppose. However, what difference does it make what primary language is spoken at "home"?
thanks countyline! at least i understand the nc wise #.

The NC Wise # is your son's student ID number. It will be the same throughout his public school years. If he transfers to another county or system, the number will remain the same. All his test data will use it and it will be his lunch number as well. Even schools in the UNC system recognize the number. With my son's NC Wise number, App was able to electronically acquire his high school transcript without contacting his high school.
The Language Survey is another piece of documentation to indicate the primary language spoken in the student's home. Not 100% sure, but I believe it is a federal requirement. It has been around for several years and with the increasing Hispanic and nonEnglish speaking children, it is heard of more often.
Hope your son has a great kindergarten year! Don't blink, he'll be a senior in no time!

What is this NC Wise # and how will it be used pertaining to my son who is starting kindergarten?
And what is with the "Home Primary Language Survey?
And why am I required to fill it out?
