Yet we pay to defend other first world economies in countries like Japan, South Korea, Middle East, etc. None are willing to pay for that service. That is where the pentagon should be sending bills for trillions of dollars

Marie I apologize to you. The Ghost Soldiers I am referring to do not exist.A roster of fake Soldiers name has been printed and fed to the Pentagon for payment. The real Soldiers are depending upon replacements but they do not exist. The Generals in Afghanistan refer to these fake Soldiers as Ghost Soldiers! Sorry about the confusion.

Backwater i realize what you're saying, yet i consider them deceased vets as same as i would deceased voters still on the register. I could possibly understand a week, month but not any longer than that. Their names & heroics should be remembered forever in any case, but not for years or decades.

I am a Veteran from days gone by as a draftee into Johnson's war. My question is about the Ghost Soldiers,or just Soldiers names on paper that collects a monthly stipend from the Pentagon. In a recent article in Military.Com a General in the Afghan Army removed 400 Ghost Soldiers names and saved the Pentagon $8 million. Do the gofers of Go Wilkes consider these Ghost Soldiers Veterans???

There's atleast a dozen articles on this, yet if a state is required to supply a certain percentage of personal, which i don't know to a war zone or what ever, what was California gonna supply from southern part of the state? A Drug Cartel....maybe? The article i read stated they needed experienced personal some which they recruited had 20-30 years service, not a bunch of thugs. As for giving money back i call BS. A person male or female join any branch of service walking through mine fields, shot at atleast once a day or more, taking on threats from hostile main lands etc etc that money is theirs. Taking it would be like having to pay to join the service, unless the Gov. needs you there's no choice, you gonna go when that time comes?

As a veteran I think that more considerations should be given, but as to the $15k bonus, there were handed out regardless of restrictions, like rank, specialization, and the dire need in certain combat areas. Those bonuses were given regardless of these. As to whether they should be returned, I don't know.

You can never trust the VA to begin with. Will the Pentagon asked for the $ 8 million back from the 400 Ghost Soldiers that names were removed as Fighters in August 2016? Was reading how many Ghost Soldiers that the Pentagon has paid for in Afghanistan and other countries in the Middle East.Military.Com.

It's like Wellsfargo firing over 5K employees because the employees were doing what they were told to do.
California screwed up and California should fix it and not the "employees".

This is ridiculous! Those soldiers signed on for extra tours because of the promise of the bonus money by the recruiters. The recruiters have already been charged with fraud because they KNEW the soldiers were not eligible. Well the soldiers didn't! They took the word of the recruiters. Charge them and make them pay back the money they handed out in error. The service folks went back overseas and put themselves in harms way based on a lie the recruiters told them. The soldiers should not have to pay the money back!

Those Bush years hard at work. I do feel for those soldiers and believe in most cases the payback should be waived. If you read about what happen some high ranking officials have already been charged and sentenced.

California soldiers who were given a $15.000 reenlistment bonus a decade ago are now being demanded to repay the bonus. The Pentagon has decided they want that money back from thousands who had already served 3-4 terms. The money was offered by California officials who needed to fill their quota for personal in which they needed experienced soldiers to fill needs. The Pentagon states they were over paid & demanded money back. Many have refinanced their homes & some making payments. Yet, as for lost limbs & lives that's their problem. Wonderful way too treat your vets?
