I guess the buses nowadays already have satelite tv and free wifi. Maybe if they added a smooching booth more kids would ride the bus.

They basically forced my uncle into retirement, then had to beg him to come back and drive. Idiots

Exactly right forever cynic. Plus add to the fact that they get to sit there for hours before anyone should arrive.

No, public transportation is required by law for all students -

I did see a provision, though, that says the school board could hire an independent company to replace its school bus system.

Now that sounds like a pretty good business opportunity for the right person.

There's something that has always bothered me about the parents' line, though. There's absolutely no security check there, and no way for anyone to know whether the people in line are really supposed to be there. A child molester could easily just show up in the line one day, and no one would notice. Or, more likely, a parent that doesn't have visitation rights.

If they would TREAT the bus drivers that they have and respect them they wouldn't have such a turn over!! Even when they do have a good driver they some how want to get rid of them. The drivers on some of these buses don't need to be on them!! But it seem the good ones are getting rid of and they will put who ever and what ever they can get on the buses!!! If you're honest hard working and try to do a good job they get rid of YOU!!!!!

I used to have to walk to school 4 miles up hill both ways. The only required transportation is for those students to fall into special needs classifications. Just about every student could be classified as needing something special and thus qualify for a ride to school.

The school system should not have to spend extra money to accommodate students who do not ride a bus to work, how much did the extra line a Millers Creek cost, to get the cars out of the highway?

I'm in agreement that the school parking lots and driveways should be closed to visitors until 5-10 minutes prior to the release time for students.

Some schools have three loads. There are kids sitting at the school until 4:30 (at least) waiting for their bus. That alone indicates a need for more busses and drivers as far as I'm concerned.

I drive my kid to school. Always have and as long as I'm able I always will. I do however use some common sense about it. Parents SHOULD NOT be allowed to sit in the school parking lot hours before it is time to pick their kids up. There's no reason a parent should be just sitting in a school parking lot from 2:00 until 3:00 just waiting on their kid. Who cares if you are first in line? The line shouldn't be allowed to start to form until 30 minutes before school starts at the max. It's a hazard and it's just plain weird to have adults in a school parking lot just watching with no legitimate reason for being so early.

When I was in school the bus was packed with kids far over the capacity it was supposed to carry. Many kids shoved 3 to a seat, some sitting in the aisle. It was madness.

The buses wake me up of the morning coming thru the neighborhood picking up kids.

Ummm...the buses are packed! Buses are running two loads of the mornings and afternoons. Just because there is a line at the school doesnt mean that no kids are riding the buses. Do you realize Millers Creek has almost 1,000 kids? If all of those kids were car riders the traffic would be worse than it is. If ALL children rode the bus the school system would need more buses and more drivers.

The bus drivers they have are already being screwed over. They'll give them a route that takes 2 1/2 hours to drive, then refuse to pay them for more than 2 hours.

Most of the buses they have are very overcrowded, too. Look at any of them in the afternoon, and you'll see that every one of them are at least 50% over their max occupancy.

You obviously haven't been to Wilkesboro Elenentary. The busses are full morning and afternoon. Wilkes County sends home a transportation form to be completed and returned indicating the student's mode of transportation for the next school year. Schools know practically how many kids will be bus riders or car riders. Yes, I agree, teachers need a raise!

This total, unadulterated, complete BULL ****! The dang buses aren't being utilized now! Go by ANY and I mean ANY school in Wilkes county just prior to opening bell and before school is out and you will see that the dang buses aren't being used. I've even gone by some of the elementary schools at 12:30 and the frigging lines have already started. Folks picking up and dropping off kids create a traffic hazard, block major roads and have no respect for moving traffic around our schools.

Use the buses you have, save money, give the teachers a raise, go green and stop dropping the little darlings off and picking them up!
