When the Ferguson riots were happening, I remember hearing that there were only a handful of black officers on the force and on the city council. That was thought to be part of the issue with the community not being represented. I would be curious to find out if there had been African Americans applying for the job and not being hired or if they didn't try to become officers of the law.

If a police officer told me to get on the ground, because of my bad knee I'd be pretty slow to comply, I might get kicked two or three times, maybe even shot.

All police officers are good little boys, most claim they thought they saw a gun. This poor guy had done nothing wrong.

News reports saying that Baltimore has received billions in fed aid... Yet the mantra is that more must be spent. It never will be enough, for the poverty pimps.

Did anyone see where the thug run from the police yesterday in Baltimore? He dropped his gun and it went off then he was sent to the hospital to be checked out. A black lady said she seen the whole thing and that the cop shot him in the back for no reason. The thug criminal wasn't even shot but she said the cop shot him in the back, she needs to be arrested and smacked around for being a liar.

Benjamin Netanyahu spoke after meeting Ethiopian Israeli community leaders and an Ethiopian Israeli soldier, whose beating by police has fuelled tensions.

A protest by Ethiopian Israelis on Sunday ended in clashes with police.

Israel's president said the community's grievances "revealed an open and raw wound" at the heart of Israeli society.

"We must look directly at this open wound," Reuven Rivlin added. "We have erred. We did not look, and we did not listen enough."

At least 46 police and seven demonstrators were hurt in the clashes which followed the protest in Tel Aviv on Sunday night, officials said. Dozens of protesters were arrested, police said.

if our president had used even similar words, half of the country would be outraged

Yes Chendo I agree with you but at the same time I have to agree with Goddess. Her points are valid if I understood what she means totally and I think I do. That said, I still think everyone is going to have to work together regardless of religious beliefs, regardless of skin color regardless of whatever that splits us. We are going to have to stop blaming and start realizing we all bleed red, realize we are all human beings and deserve to be treated as such. That's what I think, I said it twice and counted to three so there you go! Else we'll just continue to repeat this cycle.

valid point chendo,

what i am going to relate does not compare to the current subject, but i had a very slight problem once in my past with law enforcement

a long time friend was going thru a divorce. she was married to a state trooper. we lived in different counties. i was later to find out, her husband knew i was coming for a weekend visit with my friend. when i got in the county where she lived, for reasons i didn't understand to the moment, i was pulled over by the troopers on the interstate.

as the officer exited his vehicle, i realized it was her husband. he sauntered up to my vehicle, began exchanging pleasantries, and right out of the blue asked if i had paid that "speeding ticket" i got a few months back. i said yes and asked him why he cared ... with a wink and a smile he told me to behave in his territory and sauntered back to his vehicle.

it was warning and we both knew it. he knew i was very aware of what my friend;s life had been like during her marriage.

sometimes law enforcement likes to flex its muscles just because they can. the problem is that i am don't believe for one second that all officers are like that. they are just guys doing a good job.

I understand your point chendo and I cannot disagree with you either chendo

Respectfully goddess. I see it as 2 totally different issues. Regardless of how one would comply, there are still places in this country where you can be hassled at the whim of an abusive, bully of a cop.
This has nothing to do with the behavior of a perp. It has nothing to do with the dangers of being a cop. It usually is systemic in that particular municipality.
In arizona, (where I have family) cops would ask to see your papers...just because you have brown skin...papers? Really? Wtf!
Systemic abuses of power an authority caused heads to roll in ferguson. Irrespective of that guy getting shot.

"the national discussion is not about how you should behave when approached by police. Nor is it about the inherent risks of the profession"

If it had been from the inception...then is it not possible that we wouldn't be having this conversation...

these factors are exactly what lead up to these kind of confrontations.

Simply put...the cart went before the horse!

the national discussion is not about how you should behave when approached by police. Nor is it about the inherent risks of the profession. But it is about those officers and those municipalities that have a pattern of targeting minorities and abusing their power. even to the point of actively seeking to harm and/or kill them

Goddess your point is well taken and I agree with Elmo, we asked these people to put their lives on the line minute by minute. Things are bound to go wrong which causes our police to get trigger fingers and really anyone over time would become the same way. Ask any service person who saw combat.

Exactly Elmo and agreed Chendo, totally.
