Merlefest Timber Cutting

Wow my family has been in the tree buisness as long as I have been born. My grandpa. My dad. I am sure glad you set me straight.

What animals are you referring to buy the way.
Squirrels? If that is what you are thinking! Wrong on that one. If the woods are select cut all the trees that are big enough to provide a home for them will be cut.

What about deer? In a clear cut within one year vegetation has grown enough to hide them and the ground forage will feed them way up into the winter that they would not have in a thick forest.

Rabits maybe. Nope the thick stuff provides them with cover from hawks and other perditors along with more vegetation closer to the ground.

Now go hug a tree. And smoke your waky weed.

Actually, do a bit of research and you'll find the clear cutting damages the environment. Yes after many years the trees will come back but what happens in the mean time? Animals are displaced, plants die off, erosion happens, etc.

What gets me is people think they know what there talking about just by looking at something.

When you clear cut, the timber growers back better.

This allows the trees to grow up together. So that no tree is being shaded and smotherd by the taller trees.

Just because it looks bad to you don't think this is a bad thing.

It would be bad and ironic if extending the "green" way involved removing trees

I do not have a dog in this hunt, but I know the gentleman that bought the land last year. His business is timber and land. As long as he abides by the environmental laws there are no restrictions on what he does.

No one owns land or any part there of. One owns the LAND RIGHTS to use said portion of land within what the law allows.

Some people feel they have only inherit rights with no expectation or regard to individual responsibilities! Rights, without responsibility, is greed!

Those who think Merlefest is full of "hippies" haven't been to the festival in many years.

I love Merlefest.

But it has out priced the normal everyday broke hippy.

Perhaps that's the point!

Every year we have people slamming Merlefest on this site. It brings a lot of money to this area. If you don't want to go don't. A lot of people enjoy it.

I was walking around the track at the college last weekend, and I noticed it then. It does look terrible. It is bad timing considering the 'fest is coming up.
