My scanner stays on all the time. If I'm online when I hear something come across, I'll post. If not, I don't.

How do you know the OP was just "lingering" around waiting to hear something on the scannee? Maybe he or she was just reading on Gowilkes when they heard it come across.
People post things that come across the scanner pretty often. If you don't want to know about it keep scrolling.
Like someone else said, if it weren't for people posting somethings on GW, we would never even know avout it.

If that's what makes some people "happy" and helps them feel useful, in a way, so be it. I don't see how anyone has the time or patience to just linger around and listen to those things, but to each their own.
