I agree stealing is stealing. Ask me for it, chances are if you are in need and I can help then I will. If you steal from me I have NO use for you and believe this... You won't steal from me but one time. I can't stand a liar or a thief. They are just a waste of a human being.

If you are on someone else's property with a dirt bike or a 4 wheeler without their permission, they have a right to be angry. If you are going into their field (that they fertilized, cultivated, planted & put their money & hard work into) and take what is going to be harvested, they have a right to be angry.

I had a former neighbor who would walk their animals to another neighbor's hay field & let the animals graze (without their permission of course!). Now what do you think this did to the value of the hay? Same neighbor thought nothing of letting their horse run through MY yard followed by a kid on a 4 wheeler! In the rain! And when I dared to tell them to get out of my yard, they came back the next day with wirecutters & cut some outdoor electrical lines!

There is only so much you can take. The local farmers have had folks stealing their crops for years but the last few years it has gotten so much worse! How do you know these folks weren't going to load the car full of corn to sell at a flea market? Just because they "only" had pulled 12 ears when they were caught certainly does not mean that was all they were going to take.

A lot of folks seem to think these days that if they see something they want, they have the right to take it. My land is not playground for 4 wheelers & animals. My carport is not a playground for neighbors kids to come up & snoop around my potting bench & my mailbox is not something that curious people can open just to see what the mailman left me!!

My property is my property. Same with these farmers & orchard owners. What belongs to them is theirs. Stay off of it & leave it alone. Respect for others is what this all boils down to. Lots of folks just don't have it these days!

Personally, I agree with 100% of this. I just dont think this offense warrants a felony charge. It's a gross miscarriage of justice for this particular incident to be a felony. $1 worth of stolen corn should not equal a felony charge. If LEO have no leeway to cite offenders appropriately, the law needs to be changed. Laws like this one will cause people to lose respect for other laws.

Please do not wreck this thread with facts. Liberals must believe these chipmunks were chipping away at an ear of corn to survive the harsh life in America. Unlike the luxuries of China

"Bite" i am just saying that corn used for silage is already being chopped. The corn in question is for shelling and needs to be dry. Two diferent varieties.

Osmosis, that is true at our dam too, they take the fish no matter how small not caring that there are laws regarding size on most species.

I admire the cops that arrested them & the charges they were served & hope they hold up in court & they get some form of punishment.
As times get harder this is going to be happening more & more & I hope this case sets precedents that we won't take it in our county.
Those of you taking up for them, how about when it's your belongings someone steals? Do you want the law to simply ignore it or to do their jobs?
Deputy E.J. Lyon and Lt. Harper Hartley thank you for doing your jobs & for protecting the farmers whom feed us all in some form or fashion.
Good luck in court, hope you show the thieves be from here or anywhere that it will not will tolerated.

Whether the corn is suitable for human consumption is immaterial, it is the time of year when people use corn as a decoration, whether this is an accepted practice in their home country is immaterial, stealing in this country is illegal in tbis case it's a felony. The facts of the matter is they were caught stealing and charged for their actions, they will have their day in court where they can either plead guilty as charged, plead guilty to a lesser charge or plead not guilty and let a jury of 12 decide their fate.

Silage corn is chopped before the kernels are hard and dry. You need the moisture. If the corn is to be shelled, you wait until the kernels are dry.

Sometimes my brother-in-law and I will fish at Lake Hickory. In the summer we take his boat and go up the river and fish below the Lake Rhodhiss dam. The orientals { I assume Vietnamese) will get in these little blow-up boats like you buy at Walmart and paddle out in the river. Before they release the water to generate power they blow a siren warning that lets you know to get the heck away. When the siren goes off it's a dangerous proposition. You see them out there risking there lives for a little mess of fish. People don't realize they came from a different culture. Maybe to them gleaning this corn didn't seem wrong.
