And goddess, I've heard that about baking soda as well. I googled to make sure I was right, and it says to use equal amounts of baking soda AND salt on your carpet... let sit for as long as you can stand it, at least overnight. Vacuum :)

Yes, I HAVE given cats a flea bath.. . 2 cats.. lol. I have to admit the shampoo works if you have the patience to follow the directions (leave the foamy shampoo on the cat for 10 or 15 minutes... that was hell). If you have never bathed a cat, you will never know what I went through lol. So yeah, it was worth the money to pay the vet to not have my kitties hate my guts.

another suggestion you might try to get rid of the eggs in your home...
sprinkle table salt on the floors and carpet and let sit overnight...vacuum and or sweep up next morning...the salt will breakdown the flea eggs.

yeah. I have learned with the worm meds..I bought a big bottle from the vet when I had the puppies. and I still have plently left to give Kiska all of hers. I think I will just get some from the vets. but I will have to wait till tomorrow though cause I won't have a way to get there before I go to work...she'll have some reliefe for today atleast...need to get some for my cats to...have you ever tried to give a cat a flea bath before?...yeah, they don't like it....lol

Wilcox, Why don't you use the flea stuff from the vet's office. You put it on your dog once a month. Problem solved. No more bathing.

I'll just go ahead and say that you are wasting your money when you buy flea killers and wormers from WallyWorld. I spent too much money trying to "save" money that would be spent at the vet, and ended up spending more AND had to resort to the vet for the "good" stuff.. Just go to the vet and ask for some... it will work the FIRST time around unlike Walmart's cheap stuff.

Yeah, that what I would have figured too Bestill. In order to completely rid the dog of fleas, you have to control every step of their lifecycle.

well, Kiska needed a bath anyway. I have a flea problem at the moment...gosh fleas are so hard to get rid of. and she is still to young to put that stuff on the back of her neck..that you get at wal-mart..thinking I may have to call the vet and get some stuff from them. and I know dawn won't hurt them....I just don't like to use it that much cause like Bestill said, it dries out their skin if you use it to much

LOL, well you be sure to let us know the outcome, Dr. Wilcox :D Hopefully this experiment will not be too classified for us.

Anyway, I have seen where people wash birds and other animals that have been involved in oil spills, so don't let anyone tell you it could hurt your animals and that you are an awful person for "experimenting" with them.

My vet said that it kills adult fleas but not the eggs or larva (sp). A good temporary fix but the buggers will keep hatching. Not the greatest for their skin either.

I read about Dawn and Fleas sometime after the Exxon oil spill in Alaska. Dawn was what they used to clean the animals that were effected. I have been using Blue Dawn since then on two shih tzu's. I have only seen one flea and it was dead. I also use dog shampoo for the second wash and rinse extremely well.

I have always thought that Dawn Dish detergent killed Fleas. The old fashioned, regular Dawn Dish Detergent. well, someone told me on here (cannot remember who, I'm sorry) that it does not kill them, that it only paralizes them for a while. so. I have decided to do an experiment.

DAY 1: gave Kiska (my puppy) a bath in Dawn Dish detergent and sat there with a flea comb and picked out as many as I could

Fleas appear to be dead, I put them in an empty, dry water bottle. Then I took a sewing needle and poked holes in the top for the fleas some oxygen. sealed up the bottle and put them to the side. still, fleas appear dead.

I am doing this experiment to figure out if Dawn dish detergent really does kill fleas, or if it just paralizes them for a while. so that I will quit wasting my time bathing my animals in Dawn if they get fleas if it does not really kill them. and that way, ya'll will know as well. :)
