I sure would not want to live in a house where a child had been beaten to death. That's creepy!

Wilkes County was formed from Surry county in 1777, and was named in honor of John Wilkes, a distinguished English statesman and member of Parliament. He was elected by the Ministerial party from Parliament on account of his liberal political views; and as often was returned by the people. He died in 1797.

To those who still do not believe and say ....they aren't afraid of the dead.... Be afraid.... Of what will eventually happen to you and those around you that are still there. That's the curse.

So tonight for all you still living there.... As the cold sinks into your soul ...the moon slips behind a cloud and dogs howl..... Hide behind your curtains and false symbols.... And pray for the morning.

Wow! I grew up at this place and I had heard about the sprinkle man killing his brother and knew the little girl who drowned in holly farms pond but I had never hear of the unmarked graves....I find this very interesting.

The people who moved into old Paul W's place shortly thereafter had a middle age son die under suspicious circumstances.

There has been a series of articles in The Record for the past couple months about slaves and their owners in Wilkes. The Griffin guy that wrote the story about the Byers hanging is also doing this series. The Curse of Wilkes County.

I once lived in the white house near the famous Tory Oak behind Clegg's Market. I ex always stated that she saw ghosts ro spirits. She was always unsettled when she would come from Boone. She didn't know any Wilkes County History, but she swore that ghosts and spirits were present. She must have been onto something because she didn't believe in God at that time. Anyway, I only lived there a few months before buying my place. Stuff be cray cray!
